I thought that this would be a great way to to get a feel for what possibly your next audition will be like and what your previous one was like. Lets help each other by writing some tips and info. about the auditions you have already attended! This will help many people a lot I am sure...
Sooo... some questions people may have is:

-what did you audition for?

-what age group you attended (young middle or old if you dont want to be too specific)

-whatwas the easiest thing at the audition?

-what was the hardest thing bout the audition?

-was it crowded?

-how much was en pointe?

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?

-did you have to do fouettes?

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!)

thanks everyone! i think that this will be very helpful...

P.S.: I havent been to any audtions this year yet, but i will tell you about my experience once i went :)

*Ms. Tamara King taught my audition*

-what did you audition for?
Boston Ballet.

-what age group you attended (young middle or old if you dont want to be too specific)
Newton :).

-what was the easiest thing at the audition?
The barre combinations were not too difficult to remember!

-what was the hardest thing bout the audition?
Tricky balance combinations, and adadgio.

-was it crowded?
No, only 35 people.

-how much was en pointe?
Only four combinations, but we only did soutenus, echappes, passes, and sous-sous.

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
I think a double, or even a single was okay.

-did you have to do fouettes?
Nope! *phew* :P

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!)
Yes! Although the audition was very tiring, I had lots of fun. Especially because I got to see my friends from last summer!

This audition was so relaxed, I loved it! Ms. King corrected us alot on our mistakes, so it somewhat felt like a Master Class more than an audition. That really helped, because it toned the level of intensity/competition down. Ms. King is nice, I love how she calls the little girls in the audition peanuts :).

This is from my audition just yesterday...

-what did you audition for?
PNB, Peter Boal was the auditioner

-what age group you attended (young middle or old if you dont want to be too specific)
12-14

-what was the easiest thing at the audition?
hmm...we did a pretty easy grande allegro...but at the same time, it's not like it was like, super easy. Just not very hard. If that makes sense

-what was the hardest thing about the audition?
At the barre, he kept giving really fast combos, we'd do them once, and then he'd say, "Alright, let's do that again, but faster." And it just kept getting faster, so that kinda threw me.

-was it crowded?
19 girls

-how much was en pointe?
Not nearly as much as I thought there would be. We did one center combo and one or two across the floor, but that's all.

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
Just doubles

-did you have to do fouettes?
nope

-did you have fun???
Yes!

I get a letter within 2 weeks. I soo hope I got in, but we'll see.

What did you audition for: Jillana School

What age group: Everyone was all together

Easiest thing: Grand Allegro, but I messed it up anyway because I was so nervous.

Hardest thing: Hmm... Petit Allegro I guess. It wasn't that hard, but for some reason almost everyone messed up

Was it crowded: Not at all; only 23

How much was on pointe: Barely any :(

How many pirouettes were you expected to do: Just one, but you could do more if you want

Did you have to do fouettes: No, and I'm not sure if I'm glad or not, because they're super fun, but I was really nervous, so I probably would have fallen anyway.

Did you have fun: Definitely! If I get accepted, that's definitely where I'm going.

Jillana rocks!

Where: PNB on Sunday
Age: All in together ages 12 through 18
Easiest: Barre
Hardest: Peter Boal gave combinations fast and it was hard to understand him!
It was extremely crowded. I thought I heard 68! They had to move audition into biggest room.
Only pointe was a few combos at end after boys were dismissed.
First audition where I am not sure at all how I did!

I was just reading this, and about the number of people in the class...in mine, I put the number in my age group, and some of the numbers are so big, I'm wondering, are you guys putting the number in your age group or the number all together?

*Mrs. Joan Kunsch taught my audition*

-what did you audition for?
Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts.

-what age group you attended (young middle or old if you dont want to be too specific)
It was just one big audition combined.

-what was the easiest thing at the audition?
Frappes. All the rest of the combinations were sometimes hard to remember, but Mrs. Kunsch was very kind and open about repeating combinations and answering questions. ;)

-what was the hardest thing bout the audition?
Adadgio.

-was it crowded?
No, this was the smallest audition I've ever attended! Only eight people including me. Note that this audition took place at the Fort Wayne Ballet Academy, and I was the only one who did not go there year-round who auditioned. They were all very kind though, and also very talented!

-how much was en pointe?
Pirouettes, petit allegro, and grande allegro.

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
I don't think it really mattered.

-did you have to do fouettes?
Nope! *relief again*

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!)
Yes, Mrs. Kunsch was a very nice teacher who gave us corrections that I am going to apply in my ballet class at my home studio on Monday!

This audition concluded with a talk about the summer programs and year round programs. It was a really great class which I throughly enjoyed.

I want to try and makes this a sticky, but does anybody know how to do that?

-what did you audition for?
Long Beach Ballet

-what age group you attended (young middle or old if you dont want to be too specific)
There wasn't one really but you had to be at least 12 (I think)

-what was the easiest thing at the audition?
Probably the pointe. All we did was echappes (4th and 2nd with passes) and a turn combination from the corner (pique, pique, soutine, soutine, chaine...repeat)

-what was the hardest thing about the audition?
I think the petit allegro. It was quite tricky and lots of the girls had trouble with it.

-was it crowded?
No, not really. 22 people attended, with 2 being boys.

-how much was en pointe?
I think about 10 minutes

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
On flat we were expected to do doubles. We didn't do any on pointe.

-did you have to do fouettes?
No, thank goodness!

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!)
YES YES YES! I had such a great time! He really liked us "dancing" everything and using lots of artistry. One of the girls asked him where the arms were on an assemble in the petit allegro and her replied with, "I don't care, just make them pretty!" :D
I had lots of fun and it wasn't really a style I was used to!

-what did you audition for?
Joffrey :)

-what age group you attended (young middle or old if you dont want to be too specific)
15+

-what was the easiest thing at the audition?
The diagonals in center. We only did two different combinations, and just did them a few times.

-what was the hardest thing about the audition?
The different names of things, like instead of releleve, you "rise up"??!?

-was it crowded?
23 ppl, two boys

-how much was en pointe?
10 minutes ish

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
She just said as many as you could... most did doubles some did triples. We did flat and pointe pirrouette combinations

-did you have to do fouettes?
Nope

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!)
I loved it. I even got a correction!

-what was the hardest thing bout the audition? the whole audition

-was it crowded? not as crowded as I thought it would be- about 40-something people

-how much was en pointe? the whole audition

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do? 2 or 3, most people did 2

I just auditioned for Chataqua and North Carolina DAnce Theatre today!

I attended the 11-13 age group

The easiest thing was the tendus becasue they were bery basic (they really look for great technique though)

The hardest thing was how fast he tought so be prepared to be able to pick things up really quick!

18 people were there most of them trying out for chataqua (it was 2 auditions in 1) Chataqua only takes 20 people in the whole US though

WE only did tendus, degages, and developes in the center NOT en pointe. Everything else was on pointe so it was a good ammount of time.

You were expected to be able to do a double en pointe.

WE did one combo with fuettes. It was only 2 fuettes though

It was lots of fun!
