I was just wondering, for anyone who auditioned for PNB:

My friend from my studio auditioned for PNB. She told me that before the audition class even started they cut some people based on body type. This seems kinda harsh, and I wanted to clarify if it is true or not.

I'm not sure how I've missed seeing this for so long and I'm very sorry I didn't see it sooner, because this is absolutely NOT true. PNB does not do this, and I wonder why your friend would say such a thing.

Not too much, maybe 30-35

-how much was en pointe?
The whole class

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
1-2

Yes, until I started to lose confidence (due to my lack of Balanchine training), but it wasn't stressful, and I enjoyed the class

15 minutes
-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?

-what did you audition for? Joffrey Ballet School

-what age group you attended (young middle or old if you don't want to be too specific) Everyone was together, so ages 9-21

-what was the easiest thing at the audition? Hmmmm I guess tendus in center.

-what was the hardest thing bout the audition? All the barre combinations! They were all brain teasers. Very confusing.

-was it crowded? Nope, 22 people.

-how much was en pointe? Only two combinations, one was pirouettes the other one was just bourres across the floor.

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do? They didn't say, most did doubles. The floor was really slippery so everyone was really scared to turn.

-did you have to do fouettes? No.

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!) Truth be told I can't tell if I had fun or not. I did really bad at barre but pretty good in center. It was definitely not one of best. We had a wood floor and there wasn't much rosin so that just made things kind of worse. But the auditioner was really nice and funny.

-was it crowded? No, 17 including me.

-how much was en pointe? none

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do? 2

-did you have to do fouettes? no

-what did you audition for? Boston Ballet

-what age group did you attended (young middle or old if you don't want to be too specific) It was going to be all ages combined but they ended up splitting us into two groups so I was with the 14-18 year-olds.

-what was the easiest thing at the audition? The whole thing really, it was a really rushed audition.

-what was the hardest thing about the audition? Nothing.

-was it crowded? At first there was about 70 but after they split us up we only had about fifty in my group.

-how much was en pointe? We didn't have enough time for any pointe.

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do? She said doubles, but some went for triples.

-did you have to do fouettes? Nope.

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!) Yes. :)

Little extra stuff: The audition was so rushed like we had a twenty minute barre and then went to center, the audition was only about fifty minutes long. Most of the girls there were very skinny, I'm considered curvy in the ballet world so the auditioner didn't really watch or even look at me or other girls with similar body types to mine, so she paid more attention to the thinner girls. Overall I thought I did ok. There were a lot of cut throat girls though who loved to show off while we were waiting (and loved to glare at people). But I liked the auditioner she was fun and I would love to have a class with her again.

Joffery Chicago

15 & up

-whatwas the easiest thing at the audition?
Barre wasn't too terribly difficult; only a little bit of pointe at the end

-what was the hardest thing bout the audition?
Not having quite enough space at barre

It was SO crowded. When we got there, there was already a line around the corner outside to register (in the cold and snow). The audition was split up int 3-4 classes, and even then it was crowded.

-how much was en pointe?
A few combinations at the end

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
Iwould say 2

-did you have to do fouettes?
no

-did you have fun?
I enjoyed it. I felt that (finally) I did pretty well.

-what did you audition for?
Walnut Hill

-what age group you attended?
13 and up

-what was the easiest thing at the audition?
Most of the combinations were pretty simple.

Because the combinations were so simple, EVERY little technique problem stood out, so it was really obvious if your foot wasn't completely pointed or your alignment was a bit off.

-was it crowded?
Not really.

-how much was en pointe?
None.

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
Doubles.

-did you have to do fouettes?
Nope.

Yeah! It was a pretty good class overall.
