-what did you audition for?
Long Beach

-what age group you attended?
Everyone was together.

-what was the easiest thing at the audition?
The combinations were, for the most part, easy to remember.

-what was the hardest thing bout the audition?
He asked us to do some things technique was (arm placement, etc) that I'd never really done before. Also, he wanted us to look in the mirror a LOT, which made it an issue when spotting during travelling turns.

-was it crowded?
Not at all.

-how much was en pointe?
Center.

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
Singles. You could try doubles if you wanted, but I was the only one who did.

-did you have to do fouettes?
No.

-did you have fun?
Yeah, it was okay. He had some pretty good comments, although he sort of ignored me...and he made a couple of comments about 'ideal dancer weight'. They weren't directed specifically at anyone, but it was a bit awkward since he didn't know any of us/our backgrounds.

Oooh this is so exciting I just had my first audition ever today!!
-what did you audition for? Long Beach Ballet

-what age group you attended (young middle or old if you dont want to be too specific) all one group, most were 15-18, with about 5 or so 12-14

-what was the easiest thing at the audition? Adagio (I know, adagio is never "easy" but for an adagio it was simple and sweet and not too challenging)

-what was the hardest thing bout the audition? Barre, it was really fast, there were some serious ninja tendues

-was it crowded? no, a good size, 25 girls

-how much was en pointe? the last half hour, and it wasn't too difficult

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do? One or two, but we were encouraged to do two and almost everyone did

-did you have to do fouettes? NO! thank god

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!) I really really loved it! It was a fun class and not too intense or anything. Just fun :)

-what did you audition for?
Joffrey Ballet School

-what age group you attended (young middle or old if you dont want to be too specific)
13+

-what was the easiest thing at the audition?
Probably barre, some of the combos were a bit of a brain teaser, but surprisingly I did well with one of the more confusing ones (haha I have my teachers to thank for that, they like fast weight changing combos)

-what was the hardest thing about the audition?
This turn combo from front to back it was faster than I expected, but the moves in it weren’t too difficult. Then the petit and grand allegro was also difficult, but it happens to be my worst thing ever. The petit allegro was fast and there was (I forgot the name!) thing where you coupe and stepped over then did a sisson then two coupes over and the sisson, I have never done it so it was only hard because it was new and really fast!. Then in their grand allegro there was a tonlieflesh (sorry I don’t know the spelling) and a “calypso” not sure what the ballet term was something attitude that I also have never done before in ballet

-was it crowded?
Sort of, about 38, but this was my first audition so I'm not sure what would count as crowded

-how much was en pointe?
Just the last 15 minutes, he separated us up into 2 groups one for 2 years + pointe and one of less than 2 years, the combos were similar but the 2+ was faster and a tiny bit more difficult and more time to pirouette. The combo (for less than 2 years) was just echappes passes, then bourre to 4 and pirouette.

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
Didn’t specify but most did two, some three and one, and en pointe the 2+ did two or three, and -2 did one or two (I fell out of all of them it was so embarrassing.

-did you have to do fouettes?
Nope none!

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!)
I guess I did, it was my first so I was so nervous and was bad compared to other girls (some were amazing! But others not so much so I was in the middle ability range) but I have been dancing very little. The guy who gave the audition was one of their teachers then a former SFB dancer whose the artistic director? But the guy was comical and tried to make us laugh.
I got in too!

Last one! but now comes the hard part- deciding

-what did you audition for?
ABT
-what age group you attended (young middle or old if you dont want to be too specific)
12-14
-whatwas the easiest thing at the audition?
The whole audition was fairly simple, but hen again I'm turning 15 in a month and I was one of the oldest
-what was the hardest thing bout the audition?
Grande allegro- grande jete without a glissade before it
-was it crowded?
41 people
-how much was en pointe?
10 minutes :(
-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
2, but a few did 3
-did you have to do fouettes?
No
-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!)
Yes! I'm really excited because they paid a lot of attention to me. :)

-what did you audition for?
Washington School of Ballet

-what age group you attended?
Everyone was together.

-what was the easiest thing at the audition?
the pointe combinations. just a few echappes and passes and some simple pirouettes.

-what was the hardest thing bout the audition?
He made us do chaine turns in 5th position rather than 1st, which was new to me. Some of the combinations were a little tricky and pretty quick.

-was it crowded?
only 20 people.

-how much was en pointe?
2 or 3 simple combinations at the end of class

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
doubles, but he really wanted more than that!

-did you have to do fouettes?
No.

-did you have fun?
Yes! I loved the teacher, very funny and he made it feel more like a master class. The atmosphere was really nice. He also gave a lot of personal corrections :)

-what did you audition for?
Boston

-what age group you attended?
15 and up

-what was the easiest thing at the audition?
Everything was pretty simple, nothing extremely difficult! Grand allegro was extremely simple: a couple of saute arabesques and saute passes, and then a pas de chat.

-what was the hardest thing bout the audition?
Nothing was really hard...but the simplicity also meant that any technical problems were more easily spotted.

-was it crowded?
there were about 30 people.

-how much was en pointe?
one combination in the center and a turn combination across the floor.

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
most people did doubles.

-did you have to do fouettes?
No.

-did you have fun?
Yes. I loved the teacher, and the class was good. It felt very rushed though, our class was only an hour and 15 minutes long. We went very quickly through combinations and the studio space was very small, making it difficult to be seen.

-what did you audition for?
Kirov Academy of Ballet (of Washington D.C)

-what age group you attended? 14-18

-what was the easiest thing at the audition?
VERY simple combinations at the barre and center

-what was the hardest thing bout the audition?
ending exactly on the music. That was stressed so much by the teacher

-was it crowded?
nope! about 25-30? i think

-how much was en pointe?
none :)
-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
"one, two, five, fifteen, fourty-two" was told (haha)
as long as u ended with the leg still in passe, then go down, you could do as much as you can! (I did doubles)

-did you have to do fouettes?
no.fouettes weren't included in any combos

-did you have fun??? YES! I haven't auditioned at many places but it was definitely my favorite! I actually learned a lot of new things and got corrections from the teacher(not everyone did)

-Other stuff:I read in some posts that it's hard to understand their accents at kirov but the teacher there spoke regular English. There were three judges (one guest judge)but they never spoke to us.

The teacher gave us a mini speech about the process of accepting people at the end... "First, we look at body type. It doesn't mean that we only look for a certain body type though... The most important thing we look for is COORDINATION." (seeing if your arm goes up when your leg does, when you close in fifth your arms close and end at the same time)

I felt very confident after my audition compared to all the other ones. I got accepted! I'm REALLY bad at remembering combos, especially fast ones which didn't come up much at the audition! It was scary at first because i was the youngest and the shortest and almost everyone else was tall and thin!

Oh, and they took a pic in tendu a la seconde by calling people up before barre. NOT hard at all. The teacher was already giving out corrections by then like, "Pull up-up-up!" and "Don't slouch back", the usual corrections.

The audition was very relaxed and all combos were taught once, went over, then went by groups. My favorite part was just grande jettes across the floor because those show my dancing the most :)

-was it crowded?

-did you have to do fouettes?
No

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!)

What did you audition for?- Joffrey
What age group?- 10-14
What was the easiest thing at the audition?- The barre was pretty easy.
What was the hardest thing?- The instructor had a thick Russian accent and it was a bit hard to understand what she was saying, fourth sounded like "force", and fifth sounded like "fees".
Was it crowded?- It depends on what you think is crowded, there were around 40 people.
How much was on pointe?- only two combinations in the center at the end.
How many pirouettes were you expected to do?- It wasn't specified, i did two just to be safe.
Did you have to do fouettes?- No
Did you have fun?- Kind of, it wasn't super super fun, but it wasn't boring either.

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do? 2

-did you have to do fouettes? no :D
