What did you audition for?
Kansas City Ballet

What age group did you attend?
There was only one age group, the ages ranged from about 12 to 17

What was the easiest thing about the audition?
All the barre combinations were simple, but they were very focused on technique

What was the hardest thing about the audition?
The first combination on pointe you had to do single or double pirouettes, but nothing was insanely difficult.

Was it crowded?
I was at the Minneapolis audition and there were only 21 people there.

How much was on pointe?
About five combinations, or the last twenty minutes.

How many pirouettes were you expected to do?
At least two

Were there fouettes?
No

Did you have fun?
Yes! I had an amazing time in the audition. I worked very hard, but there was a great feeling in the classroom. I had not heard a lot about the Kansas City Ballet before, but they have a very nice program!

What did you audition for?
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre

What age group did you attend?
All ages, so about 12-20ish.

What was the easiest thing about the audition?
First two jump combinations.

What was the hardest thing about the audition?
For me, it was adagio, but I'm not good at adagio. We did do pique turns across the floor, and they wanted some doubles, so some people may think that was the hardest.

Was it crowded?
Not too crowded, about 50 people.

How much was on pointe?
Four combinations or about 20 minutes.

How many pirouettes were you expected to do?
At least two, but you could do more if you wanted.

Were there fouettes?
No.

Did you have fun?
Yes! I attended last year, so Dennis and Margie, the auditioners and school directors, recognized me and said that I was looking great! Also, I felt like this was the best audition I've had this year, but it could just be I was having a great turning day and ended up doing 4 en pointe again.

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do? Not specified, but most of us did one since the floor was so slick

Auditioned for Kirov Academy of Ballet Summer Intensive
Age group I attended was ten through thirteen.
Easiest thing about the audition was probably the combinations in the center. They were not that hard. Although, we had to do sautes across the floor alone! Very fun though.
The hardest thing about the audition was the adagio we did in the center. I started to lose my balance.
It was not that crowded.
There was no pointe at the audition. They only wanted to see basic technique and artistry.
I don't remember pirouettes.
No fouettes.
I didn't have a blast because I wasn't used to the vaganova style and the teacher Mr. Freedman talked to the parents a lot.
I ended up going to the intensive and loved it. I truly recommend it! Soooo fun and extremely helpful. I improved so much!

*This was last year

What did you audition for?
PNB in Seattle(:

What age group you attended
Middle (14-15)

What was the easiest thing about the audition?
Barre was pretty straight forward, so was the pointe section. Just some ecchapes and fast turns.

What was the hardest thing about the audition?
Probably the adagio. But I am not the best at adagio, so that just my opinion. The class was pretty simple (:

Was it crowded?
There was about 50 people, so not really, we got split into groups of 6 or 7.

How much was en pointe?
2 combinations.

How many pirouettes were you expected to do?
Two was the minimum, I put some triples in there if I could fit it in the music.

Did you have to do fouttes?
Nope!

Did you have fun?
Of course I did! It was more of a master class than an audition (:

-what age group you attended (young middle or old if you dont want to be too specific)15-18

-whatwas the easiest thing at the audition? Definitely the grande allegro

-what was the hardest thing bout the audition? Remembering the combinations. The instructor would do different things on each side for the barre work, so that was different than what I'm used to.

-was it crowded? ehhh about 30-40 people

-how much was en pointe? last 20 minutes

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do? singles or doubles, it wasn't specified.

-did you have to do fouettes? OH MY GOD YES. ugh. That was definitely the worst part of the audition. Especially because we did them en pointe. -_-

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!)Yes! I was not accepted, but there was a problem with my email so I didn't recieve my results til five weeks later. BY then the registration deadline had already passed. Oh well. I enjoyed it. :)

It was all one group

-whatwas the easiest thing at the audition?

-was it crowded?
YES! There were 80 people

-how much was en pointe?
Just one combination at the end. It was an ecchape and pirouette combo for 15-19 and an ecchape releve combo for 10-14.

One for the little girls, otherwise 2-3

-did you have to do fouettes?

-what did you audition for?
Atlanta Ballet

-what age group you attended (young middle or old if you dont want to be too specific)
It was one big group

-what was the easiest thing at the audition?
Haha.... I was way out my comfort zone the whole time to be honest! I guess the first little warm up combo at barre, or the warm up jumps.

-what was the hardest thing bout the audition?
EVERYTHING! It was by far the hardest audition I've ever been to. All the combinations were really complex to the point that no one really was able to master or even memorize them. Also, at barre we were told to "express our personality through our arms" and we weren't given any specific arm positions. It was a fun class, but I definitely wasn't expecting it to be like what it was... Just be prepared to be challenged!

-was it crowded?
There were only 17 of us

-how much was en pointe?
All of center

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
Two

-did you have to do fouettes?
Nope!

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!)
Yes! It was an interesting experience. Also, at the end of the audition we were each given a piece of paper with our acceptance information which was nice. I got into the advanced program!

-what did you audition for?
Ballet West

-what age group you attended (young middle or old if you dont want to be too specific)
The younger one, 12 to 18. They had another one for 19 to 26.

-what was the easiest thing at the audition?
Hmm, everything moved so fast, both at the barre and in the centre. You always have someone to follow if you are truly lost, but I think that will just make a person more and more nervous.

-what was the hardest thing bout the audition?
Everything, really! The combinations weren't TOO hard that no one can manage, but it was NOT a slow/average class speed. There were also a lot of balancing.

-was it crowded?
50ish of us (age 12 to 18) in one studio -- they planed to have one age group only but too many of us showed up, so they had to split us up into 2 groups in the last minute.

-how much was en pointe?
45 mins

-how many pirouettes were you expected to do?
The teacher didn't say it but most people did two. We had a lot of 17, 18 years old, but it was perfectly okay to do only one CLEAN pirouette.

-did you have to do fouettes?
Nope!

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!)
Yes! I have NO hope to get in, but it was an amazing experience. Be prepared if you are going to Ballet West's audition - bring a water bottle with you if you can. There were a lot of turning en pointe, the petit allegro was fast and changing corners. The people are really nice but I think they are looking for sharp dancers!

-What did you audition for? Boston Ballet (adjudicators were Margaret Tracey and Russell Kaiser)

-What age group did you attend? The 15-18 age group was broken up into 15-16 year olds (my group) and 17-18 year olds. There were two separate classes.

-What was the easiest thing at the audition? Adagio and pointe

-What was the hardest thing about the audition? Not much, but I would say the petit allegro combination; it was really fast

-was it crowded? YES!!! 160 people showed up, but even in my class of 80 people, there was no room to even cambre forward or back at the barre!

-How much was en pointe? You had the option of taking the whole class en pointe or with flat shoes; it didn't matter. They told us to do whatever we usually do at our own ballet schools. However, everyone did one combination at the end with pointe shoes on (just some simple echappes and passes).

-How many pirouettes were you expected to do? Doubles en dehors and en dedans

-Did you have to do fouettes? No

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!)Yes! It was a great class with a great atmosphere.

-What did you audition for?
SAB

-What age group did you attend?
14-15

-What was the easiest thing at the audition?
The combinations were simple and easy to pick up.

-What was the hardest thing about the audition?
The tension in the room was very high. Also at barre and for some combos in center we would only do one side. (Like we would do plies on the right, then tendus on the left.)

-was it crowded?
Yes! There were only 40 or so of us but the studio was tiny.

-How much was en pointe?
Everything for 15 year olds and I think the last 15-20 minutes for 14 year olds.

-How many pirouettes were you expected to do?
1 or 2.

-Did you have to do fouettes?
No!

-did you have fun??? (I hope you did!)
Yes... But I never really felt comfortable. It was tense in the room.

What did you audition for?: Louisville Ballet (sticking close to home this summer!)

What age group were you in?: There wasn't one. But the age range was 11-25, though most people were younger than 19

Was it crowded?: Pretty much! At least 40 people showed up, so it was difficult with the spacing, but not SUPER crowded!

What was the easiest thing?: For me, it was the jumping combinations across the floor! I love to jump!

What was the hardest thing?: Frappe at barre. I love frappe, but this was weird. Also, pirouettes en pointe because my balance has been suffering.

How much was en pointe?: All of center. It was pretty easy.

How many pirouettes were expected?: doubles en pointe

Did you have to do fouettes?: Nope!

Did you have fun?: Absolutely!! Best audition I have ever attended! Along with the fact that I'm interested in their company...

I was actually accepted!! They said I was interesting!
