My friend and I are thinking of entering a talent show, and we were wondering what type of dance would be most entertaining. The judges are just people in the audience, and neither of us is sure what would be appealing to most non-dancers...We've done a contemporary routine in a school talent show and placed pretty high, and we werent sure if we should do something similar or not.

I think Jazz is the most relate able to an audience. Guys aren't into Ballet and non-dancers have a hard time understanding the skill involved, Modern and Contemporary goes over some peoples heads, Tap is loud and fun to watch but again it's hard to convey to non-dancers the skill involved.

Jazz that is a good, high energy routine would probably show off your ability and be the most entertaining to non-dancers.

I would say either jazz or hip-hop, because they're both upbeat and fun and will get the crowd excited and eager to watch!

Whilst Classical and Lyrical require alot of technique and skill, audiences are usually more entertained by faster, upbeat Jazz and Hip-Hop routines. These can also show off your ability to non dancers as, whilst im not saying they don't require alot of skill, the audience can relate to them better and judge them better than, say, a classical routine. just my personal opinion. I voted lyrical/contemporary as my personal preference, but I agree that you should do Jazz or Hip Hop. These are what most non-dancers will understand and apprectiate most because a high energy routine to a well known song will easily get the crowd going!

I would say jazz. This is because most non-dancers don't appreciate things like ballet, modern, or lyrical. Hiphop is kind of like eh, it might be a good idea but I think jazz is the best.

This way you can show off your technique and have fun with it!

Hip-hop, at least where I live, would get the best response. Most other dance forms woudln't really be understood by the majority of the crowd.

It really all depends on your audience, though.

Musical Theater sounds good, a lot of people can relate to it/understand it.

I would go with an upbeat, happy song, like Footloose or the cute one from Grease (they do it at the end).

I don't have a particular piece of music in mind, but I can tell you what sells the best, as far as music.

1)It's got to be something new and current. Something that any person in that audience could turn on the TV, or turn on the radio and hear.

2)It has to be something identifiable. "Make 'em Laugh" from Singin' In The Rain is going to sell alot better to the audience (even not being at all current) then the instrumental score from Best Little Whorehouse In Texas, even though the piece from BLWIT is probably far better to choreograph to. So keep that in mind.

Jazz would be able to show your technique really well and it will get the crown pumped. Or maybe a heart wrenching lyrical dance!! =]

Hip Hop is the most relateable...or jazz. One of those would be best.

jazz, especially if you have some good tricks or if you are flexy. Flexy always goes down well with the non dancing crowd, as well as if either of you can flip or aerial, everyone always loves a bit of that too!

Me and a friend one year did a modern/classical paice were we where dualing with our different styles of dance in our high school talent show

I love lyrical because there is usually a message behind it and it is pretty catching

I find hip hop most impressive, because its a mixture of sharp and smooth movements and looks so... robotic? I just think that, if done right, its VERY impressive.
Second place for me is Jazz, but I really love to watch hip hop.

I personally loveee watching Lyrical or Contemporary because I'm obviously a dancer and I know how much techqniue and stuff you need to dance those . But for some people , they don't understand it so for a talent show , I would go with Jazz or HipHop cause they're easy to relate to and you can make them cute and fun ! Hope I helped (:

I think lyrical/contemporary. You always get to see interesting & creative choreography. But jazz is always good too, especially if you dance to a modern song that's quite recent and catchy, you'll get the audience dancing in their seats I guess any style works, if you have a great dance, and look like you want to be there & are having fun!

I put lyrical because I think it is beautiful! But lyrical and jazz really are my top picks (coincidentally they're tied at 31% each. I like them both!

For a school talent show, you choice of song is going to make way more difference than it should.

Choose something fun, engaging, or very, very popular with the audience. Jazz is usually the most easy to engage the audience the audience with...think musical theater.

I would have voted for modern or contemporary. Not sure why lyrical is lumped in with contemporary. So I voted for jazz.

Contemporary all the way! I love the feeling and emotion put into contemporary. And I also love the kinds of music choreographers use for contemporary pieces.

I'd go ballet or hip hop. I'd like it even more if you started with ballet and morphed into hip hop.
