Girls Only PG-13 The Moontime Thread (karma: 13)
en>fr fr>en By Celebrian Comments: 7591, member since Thu Mar 31, 2005On Tue Jan 20, 2009 10:03 PM
In some ancient societies the time of your menstrual period was a time for you to go someplace else with a bunch of other females. I've noticed nowadays a negative connotation has been put on that. But when you really think about it, why does it have to be negative? You got a few days off from all the work (and women back then worked some HARD manual labor), you got to chill out with other women on their time and talk talk talk.
I've wanted to start a Moontime thread for a while now so DDNers on their rag, being visited by Snoopy and the Red Baron, whoever has fallen off of the roof, has Aunt Flo visiting, could attract sharks in the ocean, are more likely to be attacked by hungry lions, has had their ship land or whatever euphemism you call it, we could all chill out together during it.
What would we talk about? Whatever you want. Rage against your period. Talk about it being a blessing. Be glad its shown up if you were paranoid because of it possibly not showing up. Talk about those darn cramps or brag because you don't get them. Bring along your home remedy ideas. The skies the limit.
This thread is for those during their Time. I figured it might be a comfort for a few days, especially if you're moody or having cramps. I normally don't get moody, but I know some ladies do.
So come on in, sit by the fire and bring your comfort food or drink of choice. I am currently sipping on hot chocolate.
(Mods, if you think this is stupid or a bad idea, I won't be upset at all. I'm still trying to figure out if this is a good idea or not, lol!) 562 Replies to The Moontime Thread | re: The Moontime Thread en>fr fr>en By Believe Comments: 1728, member since Sat Oct 14, 2006On Tue Jan 20, 2009 10:07 PM
Yay, I like this thread! Somewhere where I can RANT.
I always have super light, pain free, three day periods. I'm talking for three years now. Always regular. Now, for some reason, this time around, I was three days early, and yesterday I was pretty much crying from the excruciatingly painful cramps.
What did I do to deserve this so suddenly?
/rant.

A few years ago I started wondering how accurate names like "Moontime" were, so, being the science dork that I am, I actually tried to track my menstrual onset against the phase of the moon. Turns out I don't have a correlation at all; my monthly cycle was a good five or six days different from the moon's. I was extremely disapointed.
I have my monthly friend right now, but chocolate pudding was on sale at the grocery store this weekend, 10 for $10, so I have $20 worth of pudding in my cupboards. I shall survive. ![:] :]](http://dancenet.s3.amazonaws.com/images/blue/emoticons/joy.gif) | re: The Moontime Thread (karma: 2)

^ That reminds me of this one night when my best friend went out and got very drunk and then called me from the bathroom of this house party she was at just to say "hey, so I bought $23 worth of beef jerky." | re: The Moontime Thread (karma: 1)

Aha I love this thread! (:
I'm currently 'riding the crimson wave' at the moment and felt like some chocolatethis afternoon, as you do, but the only chocolate we had was soft Mum had tried to hide it from me by putting it in the cupboard and because of the summer heat, it's now squishy. I'm very dissapointed.
Lol in our second to last week of school everyone who was in my form class and took music, which was about 5 of us, all had our periods. Made for a veeery interesting music class.
I normally never get cramps, but today I got them, bad. I took an Ibuprofen and just wanted to sleep all day. And instead of my 1.5hour practice I only managed 45mins because I just couldn't be bothered. O_O

Believe, Irish Holly, KayElle and I_D_NZ, welcome to the campfire. Get your feet nice and toasty, ladies. Its been cold here where I'm at, so a fire (even a virtual one) gives me great comfort, lol!
Believe, I'm so sorry you got it two days early, heavy and with cramps. That always sucks. Mine showed up a day early this time so I know what a drag it can be.
I_D_NZ, so sorry about that chocolate! But just stick it in the freezer and it'll be okay in about four hours and ready to eat. Mmm mmm! | re: The Moontime Thread en>fr fr>en By Reidfidleir Comments: 3000, member since Sun Sep 28, 2003On Wed Jan 21, 2009 04:00 PM
Hey, Mind if I sit next to someone here? I brought my blanket and lots of chocolate to share
hehe. Im in the middle to end and thanks to BC I was pain free on this time around, and lighter than usual, so I am happy at using minimal products this week. You said I could share right? hehe
ANyways, about your original post, I was watching a Michael Palin documentary on his trek through the Himalayas, and on going through Afghanistan ( I think ), there is a native tribe that actually has a separate enclosure for menstruating women in the township.
It's got a wall all around it, with one way in, and no men are allowed at all inside. Just fellow "red flag" bearing women ( they bring babies and children inside too if they're little)
When a woman is done, I think they burn some kind of thing and scatter ashes and wave a plant over her to "purify" her so she can go back out.
IT sounds cruel to some cuz they get "put away" but if you think about it, it is loving! THey don't have to work at home during that time, and there are other women around to care for each other. I like the idea! hahahaha.
Well I thank you for this post, I enjoyed it.

What a wonderful idea for a thread (and I love your euphemisms)!
I'm due to be sharkbait next week, and I'm actually happy: for the first time in over a year, I've not bled for the week leading up to it! I wonder if that will affect the flow later in the week though? Hmm. Hot week + heavy flow = me miserable.
I'm jealous of all those people with short, light periods. But on the plus side, I don't usually get cramps or (too many) mood swings. | re: The Moontime Thread en>fr fr>en By Jessi_gurl Comments: 1369, member since Fri Oct 10, 2003On Thu Jan 22, 2009 04:31 PM
Hiya,
Is there room for another? Ill bring some more chocolate and maybe some marshmallows to toast over the fire!
Im at the beginning and have been suffering for 2 days now i get really bad cramps and have to take tablets! I envy those who get no cramps, or those who have super light short periods!
Im really loving this thread! Its nice to have a moan and have others who know exactly what your going through!

Squish over, ladies!
feisgirl92 is here to join in the merriment... the ranting... the love?
I'm "riding my crimson wave" to borrow from Irish_Danzer_NZ. YUCK. No cramps, thank god. I feel like all I can do today is cry. I went to school, and cried because my best friend was leaving the school forever. I came home, refused to help my grandmother and so was screamed at, and then cried for a good twenty minutes. Then I went up to my room after I walked my dog and cried some more.
It's weird cause I usually get cramps, but not moody. Now I'm moody, but no cramps.

Oh, you had me at the mention of chocolate
Celebrian, I did end up putting it in the freezer but then it started melting again so I got fed up and just scoffed it.
Feisgirl, I was like that yesterday, well almost. I saw a picture of my dance friends at someones house having fun in their pool and got really upset because my bestfriend was there and I wasn't invited. I made a whole big deal of it to my school friend, I was reeeeally upset. Then I found out it hadn't been taken recently, it had actually been taken after a performance that I turned down because I was studying for exams.
Blah, I hate the crimson wave. O_O | re: The Moontime Thread en>fr fr>en By Naoise Comments: 1361, member since Tue Apr 20, 2004On Thu Jan 22, 2009 08:35 PM
*hugs all the ladies*
Move ova!
I'm in an odd position. Due to severe anemia, I have been told to suppress my period by putting my Nuvaring back in two days after taking it out, to avoid bleeding.
I did it, last week, and everything was cool. Until the day before yesterday. Hooray for icky brown discharge!!!! Just as I'm about to drive to Pittsburgh to visit The Boy. Not sure if I'm going to bleed or not, but next time, I'm letting my body bleed and they can kiss my butt.
BTW, I KNEW this would happen because I tried it before and it was a disaster. The Boy finally just said "Let yourself BLEED!" He was right, of course. I was down to a 3 day cramp fest from a 7 day visit to Hell. Now look at me. Ick.

That's my gift I've brought to share with everyone. Four kinds of cheesecake. Have at it, ladies!
Reidfidleir, welcome, and thank you for bringing the chocolate truffles!
Haematite, my raqs-sister, its always a pleasure to see you pop into one of my threads. And yes, your reserved spot will be here for you whenever you need it.
Jessi, welcome! So sorry you're having cramps. And good for bringing marshmallows, they're always great for toasting around a fire.
feisgirl, welcome. You're having a weepy cycle this time! {{{hugs}}} Have some hot chocolate or tea, whichever makes you feel better. *Celebrian pours feisgirl a cup*
Naoise, you're most certainly welcomed to wait here in the moon tent to see if that brown stuff turns into full on RED. I'm so sorry you've been having these health issues! {{{hugs}}} | re: The Moontime Thread en>fr fr>en By Orion Comments: 2685, member since Sun Feb 24, 2008On Thu Jan 22, 2009 11:34 PM
Can I join the party? Technically I'm not on my period right now, but BC-induced spotting is driving me up the wall. And I feel somewhat awkward and bloaty. Yet starving.
I'll bring the Indian food! That's all I crave when I'm PMSing. Extra spicy. Mmmm. | re: The Moontime Thread en>fr fr>en By ShadowLunaCat Comments: 7678, member since Sun Sep 12, 2004On Thu Jan 22, 2009 11:41 PM
I am SOO there!
My patience is at a woof, my tolerance in the same boat.
I can feel my already too-large tummy expanding from the water weight...
I can feel my mood breaking through its' usual armour-clad veneer.
the velvet gloves are off.. and the gauntlets are razor sharp.
Instead of sweet, cordial words, I find myself wanting to hold and throw daggers. And shuriken.
Then, too, I can feel the cramps coming on... slow, steady.. unyielding.
Surge of inner tightness.. and I am in the Corset... counting the hours until release.
This is the time when I feel that I'm on a "see food, so I'll eat it" craze.
The usual sugar and salt, and carbs:
chips, chocolate, pizza, ravioli, hot cocoa...
I think those Native American women, with their moon hut, would soon toss me out.. as my idea for my time would be to have a loud, loud cd player in there.. playing all sorts of music from Caribbean to Blues, to Soul, to Jazz to Soca...
Anyone for doing some free-dance around the fire.. to take our minds off the nasty-bad cramps?
Midol?

Room for more in that boat?
Ugh, my father even pointed out to me today when I was doing dance practice that I've developed a bit of a 'belly.'
I looked at him in one of those 'OMG You did not just say that, I think I'm going to cry' ways and said: Dad! I've got my period!
Then banished him from watching me practice.
How very dare he! (Catherine Tate Show moment ) | re: The Moontime Thread en>fr fr>en By Celebrian Comments: 7591, member since Thu Mar 31, 2005On Fri Jan 23, 2009 06:17 AM
Amidala, welcome! Having a pre-period moment? She'll be here any minute now so you're welcomed to wait with us. Feel free to have some cheesecake or chocolate for dessert.
Shadow! Welcome. Having an angry busy cycle, are we? lol! Well there seems to be plenty food here and lots of sweets, so help yourself to whatever you want. As for the dancing, just don't fall in the fire.
Well, ladies, it seems this is the very last day for my crimson wave. After today I'll only poke my head in once a day to welcome newcomers and tend the fire, but I won't be staying. Of course, the next time I have The Red Visitor I'll be back full-time. | re: The Moontime Thread en>fr fr>en By TheStoryTeller Comments: 2161, member since Mon May 19, 2008On Fri Jan 23, 2009 09:14 AM
Celebrian, you know me too well!
Hand over a slice of that chocolate cheesecake!
I went to dance last night, and made it through without breaking down in tears, yay! Only to come home to more yelling and being called a spoiled whiney bastard. LOVE YOU TOO MOM.
So now I'm back to crying, and really, how much more swollen can my eyes get?! | re: The Moontime Thread en>fr fr>en By Irish_Danzer_NZ Comments: 741, member since Wed May 17, 2006On Fri Jan 23, 2009 01:38 PM

Heyyy, I'm not on my period. Hardly ever am. I ovulate more regularly than I bleed, and I get cramps every month for at least a day. I'm cramping right now, so I think I qualify :/
Ugh, I want to just sleep this off. Pass the chocolate.

LOL Irish_Danzer_NZ.
THAT MADE ME LAUGH SO HARD.
Thank you

Naoise, I can sympathise with the anaemia, although never tried stopping the bleeding before. (That's because it won't stop!) No advice as to what to do, but I know exactly where you're coming from (icky brownness and all). *hug*
And another big *hug* to everyone else here, too.
I just got upset because the radio wasn't plugged in. Meant to be going out for dinner tonight; going to be a real barrel of laughs. | re: The Moontime Thread en>fr fr>en By KayElle Comments: 4484, member since Sat Jul 16, 2005On Fri Jan 23, 2009 07:58 PM
Ughhhh. In a burst of fantastic timing, my period arrived late last night, at the EXACT SAME TIME as this fancy new cold. So I'm sniffling and coughing and sneezing as well as crampy. My cramps usually aren't bad, just enough to make me uncomfortable all day, and they never last more than a day or two, so I guess there's that to be thankful for.
I'm just more angry that this cold showed up at the same time. | re: The Moontime Thread en>fr fr>en By TheStoryTeller Comments: 2161, member since Mon May 19, 2008On Fri Jan 23, 2009 08:28 PM
UGH Kay-Elle.
I know exactly what you mean.
I hate it when that happens, unfortunatley that's happened several times to me.
It's not nice to be sneezy, coughy, icky and then crampy and bloated as well.
*hugs*
I can sympathize. | re: The Moontime Thread en>fr fr>en By Kekoa Comments: 8132, member since Sun Jul 20, 2003On Fri Jan 23, 2009 08:31 PM
I totally just willed my period to come early! It wasn't due until Tuesday, but I'm sick and tired of the bloating. I took a half hour or so hot bath and just kept telling my dumb uterus to bleed already. A little later, I went to pee and voila! Now I'm munching on cool ranch doritos and diet coke |
