Okie Dokes. As DeeDees pointed out, there seems to be a need for an iPod/iTunes FAQ, so... here it is!
iPod
First, I thought we'd go over the buttons and uses of the iPods, in case needed.
MENU - takes you back to the previously viewed menu.
Center Select - Selects an option/song, etc.
For iPod Nano Chromatic/4th Gen. -
1.) Hold center select button on a song and a second menu will appear (start genius, add to on-the-go, etc.). Click the MENU button to navigate away from the second menu.
2.) Flip iPod sideways to get cover flow or to flip the video the other way. Shake iPod to shuffle songs.
Resetting your iPod
iPods have a tendency to freeze when you're using them. If this happens, it's not a big deal. There's a certain way to reset your iPod so that it will restart itself and come back to where you can continue using it.
For the
iPod Nanos, Classics, or Videos quickly toggle the hold button (at the top) on and off once. After you do that, press the MENU and Center select button at the same time until an Apple logo appears on the screen.
For the
iPod Touch or iPhone press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. During this time, a red "power off" slider may appear and the screen may go black, but do not release Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears. (see picture below)
Manually adding songs onto your iPod
Have songs on another computer that you want on your iPod but you still want to keep all the songs you already have? Not a problem!
First, connect your iPod to the computer. Make sure you have iTunes up. Once iTunes detects your iPod, click where it says "(yourname)'s iPod" under "Device". Under where it says "Summary" check off the box next to "Add Songs Manually". Now, there is an arrow next to where it says "(yourname)'s iPod". Click it. A list will appear under that. One should say "Music". Leaving that list up, go back to the playlist where the songs are that you want. Click the song you want and drag it over to where it says "Music" under "(yourname)'s iPod". The song should now be on your iPod. Continue dragging the songs you want. (
Note: if you un-check the "Manually add songs" option, the songs that you added since you checked the option will be removed from your iPod. Meaning that you will also have to manually add any song you ever want on your iPod after you've chosen to add those songs unless you don't care to have them on your iPod anymore).
Device recognition issues
If iTunes is not detecting your iPod, you can try one of the following:
-Retry with a different USB port on your computer.
(
Note: do not use one on your keyboard or hub)
-Restart your computer and make sure the latest version of your iPod software, iTunes, and Windows is installed.
-Reinstall your iPod software
-Restore your iPod
