hi it seems lots of organisers are having to drop rock n roll from their program.
I for one would be very sorry to see it go, how do you feel?

Unfortuately I am one who wont miss it mainly because due to most promoters putting it on 1st on running order as Sophie has extemely long hair and it is hard to do and I find rock n roll moves can mess it up and it becomes a nightmare for me I wouldnt mind if it was last though
However I like to watch it
sorry angie

Hi,
Our kids love it both in comps and in practice so we would be really sorry to see it go!
They love doing all the lifts and it is a fun dance to do rather than the more serious main events.

i love rnr, i think there would be a few problems if it got dropped to be honest, cos people that have rock n roll suits wouldn´t obviously be able to sell them on.

Our girls don't really mind either way
BUT!! with the new graded slow I suppose something has to give
I'd prefer slow and then occasionally rock n roll
Maybe do rock n roll but don't do dance on's in the final! That would save a little time

I like rock and roll but it doesnt count for anything re lives. With solos, couples and now slowdance you have lives and grades so they are now more important.
Rock and roll is just split in age groups so it's bound to be seen as the least important. I'd far rather have happy dancers who fight for places in other things, than straight finals in rock and roll which unfortunately we seem to be getting. It just seems pointless running the event!

I would miss it. I think it funs to watch. Plus we just bought new cosutmes. lol.

I think it's a nice way to start a comp. Gives the ones who do it a good warm up and the ones who don't a chance to get sorted for solo I understand why it being dropped, time and extra cost of more trophies for slow but I would like to still see it on.

I know Ruby would miss dancing it and I would definately miss watching it. I think it's such a fun way to start the comp and gets everyone warmed up. Love watching the little ones do it, they always look so cute!

Hiya Sandra,

I really wouldn't miss it. I used to love it when it was a big thing at comps, but times have changed, and R+R is nowhere near as important as it once was. R+R is now seen as an add on.

I think disco/freestyle in general has become quite selfish, in that people are all for themselves, which is fair enough. People concentrate on solo/slow mainly.

I think R+R will be dropped soon enough, and it's not on many comp programmes nowadays anyway.

Hope to see you soon,
Cassie x

I think this is a great and very interesting post! When I competed Rock 'n' Roll was the main part of a comp programme along with solos & pairs but slow dance has grown over the years and has in a way replaced pairs & Rock 'n' Roll in importance! I remember most Rock 'n' Roll sections had over 60 couples in them and the standard was really high! I feel the standard has dropped quite a bit & the sections are now either all straight finals or have only about a dozen couples in them! It's just a sign of the times I'm afraid! I don't know what will happen in another few years time! My mum and I still teach Rock 'n' Roll as the competitive and exam pupils all love it! It's a change of style and music from what they're all used to with freestyle and slow dance! I really enjoy teaching it also as it's a change! Unfortunately the only promotors in Scotland who have Rock 'n' Roll on their programmes nowadays are Warren Brown and John & Agnes Knox! It's a sad situation we're in but I can't see it changing just getting worse I'm afraid! So to answer your question - no I wouldn't really miss Rock 'n' Roll if they dropped it from comps as not many Scottish comps have it on their programme anyway! I would still teach it in class to my dancers for fun so they wouldn't miss out! That's my little rant over lol but just saw this post and wanted to answer!!!

We would miss rnr, my daughter loves doing this dance like others have said it gets you warmed up for the rest of the day. I myself love to watch all the age groups doing rnr especially the little ones. Would be a shame if it was took off.
