Good luck to all trying out. There have been some speculations/rumors out there about who will be trying out, but according to the blue band website the twirler must have an offer of admission to Penn State or be a current student at any campus to be eligible to audition.

Does Penn State have auditions for feature twirler every year?
Does the returning feature twirler (currently PJ) have to try out every year?

Just curious as to how they ran their tryouts...

Yes they have to re-tryout yearly, but according to an officer w/ the Blue Band, replacing the feature twirler during his/her 4 year enrollment is slim.
Last weekend PJ Maierhofer was named Blue Sapphire for her 5th year for the 2009 season.

Side note: I know McGeary is a finalist for the University of Oklahoma Feature Twirler position.

Congrats to PJ on retaining her spot as the Blue Sapphire at PSU. My little 9 year old daughter has had a couple of spot lessons with PJ when we have been at different contest. She absolutely loves her as does the whole twirling world!

PJ is one in a million. She is fun to watch and always takes time to talk to other twirlers, especially the little girls who idolize her. I wish all twirlers could represent the sport as well as she has.

Megan McGeary was just named the new Feature Twirler for Oklahoma University!! She will be a great addition to an already fabulous tradition in the south.

Way to go Meg! Oklahoma's gain is PA's biggest loss!!! However, I know you will represent OK with style and grace beyond their expectations, which in turn will make its mark in PA. When the world thinks of feature twirlers they will remember a beautiful & charasmatic young lady named Meghan McGeary. You will not only be the Pride Of Oklahoma but the pride of us all!

Well Ive heard so much about this whole blog so I thought I'd check it out. First of all thank you for all of the positive comments, and whoever created the blog in the first place thank you for being so sweet! I'm very pleased to announce and confirm that I will be attending OU in the fall and I will be their Feature Twirler until I graduate. The position for the Pride of Oklahoma marching band is kept throughout the whole feature twirler's college career and it is not necessary to re-audition each year so I'll reside in Norman for the next 4 years! Everyone in Norman is absolutely amazing and they treated me like a princess! It was one of the best experiences I've ever had! I can't wait to start my new journey in my new home. The first time I stepped foot in the stadium was Saturday afternoon with Mr. Britt the band director, it brought tears to my eyes and gave me chills. It's so great to be appreciated and I hope that I can represent this great institution and be just half as wonderful and as loved as Meredith Sigler was!! Thank you so much for your support again, i love you all. Without the faith of my supporters I would never have had the faith in myself to achieve something like this. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Hope to see some of you AYOP=)

I think Megan will be a true asset to OU. I'm sad she's transferring though from Penn State. I would of liked to see her stay at home.
I heard that Merri-Frances Campbell is twirling at Louisville to be with her sister. True?
