You dig through your bag to find a hair tie and realize you forgot it. But while digging you find a drawstring from an old ballet shoe and consider it suitable to tie your hair up with......my 3 y.o. "ms x, I love your pink ribbon!..." lol!

Lol...how about, you know you are a dance teacher when you find used false eyelashes on the dashboard of your car the morning after a performance. I forgot I took them off on the way home!

You are embarrassed to let your friends who aren't dance teachers look at your Itunes because you have more Wiggles, Barney, Raffi, Disney and other assorted kid's music than "regular" music.

1) You have a notebook and pen/pencil by your bed side, and carry a notebook everywhere you go, just in case you come up with an outstanding combination for your class that you don't want to forget or you have this vivid dream with great choreography which you want to record and remember for your next class.

2) You choreograph in the aisle or online at the grocery store.

you hear a song and either

A) remember what class/routine you used that for

B) consider using it in the future

......You're super picky about your performing kids having nice, clean, new shoes but when you look down at yours they look like complete junk because you're too poor to buy new ones!

Haha i agree with the ITunes one... sometimes its quite embarrassing showing people my music. They often say "Hannah Montana???" or "Is this song from a MUSICAL??"

Maybe its also when you find half your possessions floating round the dance studio...

When your out shopping/at the movies and you always see a kid you know and they always come up and say hello.

You tell people you know how cute it was when so and so said this, or when so and so did this at dancing... forgetting they dont know who or what your talking about!

Your hair is up more often than down.

- People look at you funny at a stop light because your doing funny arm and head movements as you choreograph.

- Your normal clothes are your dance clothes... I'll run errands bank, store in my dance clothes.

- The bf is always telling you to shush because I've told the same story about what little suzy did in class for the 10th time.

- You see your students wear an old costume or hear a song and can name the year song, style and students in the class that did that song.

- Your stuck on choreography so you watch the kids at school play for 5 min at recess to come up with some unique moves.

You know your a dance instructor when you actually look like a normal person (i.e. street clothes, hair down, NOT in the studio) and no one from your studio recognizes you.

I've had this happen millions of times. Actually, some of the students that love me the most freakout and hide behind their parents legs when they see me in public because they don't recognize me. Nice, huh?

I know what you mean, AHusk89...Add to that the comment, "Oh, I didn't recognize you with clothes on"! That usually gets some interesting looks from bystanders!

You know you're a dance teacher when...

you are standing in line at a store and have a small child running toward you screaming Miss. So and So

dancing is who you are not what you do!

You know you're a dance teacher when your 200 lb. husband knows how to do point passe, heel ball change, etc. complete with the cutesy arms and hands!

When (if you live ina smallish town) everyone you run into in the community addresses you with "Miss" in front of your name.

^that's hilarious!

I definitely agree with the street clothes one. I always run into students and parents, and they're always like "Wow, I didn't recognize you, you look so different!"

You also know youre a dance teacher when you wear your studio jacket EVERYWHERE, because it's the ONLY jacket you own!

(sort of true for me. I own a few other jackets, but I hardly ever wear them....ever.)

when you buy regular clothes you always wonder if you can wear it to teach in too...
you have a pile of clothes in your closet that you wish you had places and time to wear.
you can drive from your house to your studio and not remember how you got there, cuz you were choreographing a routine
you fall asleep in your dance clothes
you where dance clothes to sleep in

When you watch anyone dance and have a list of corrections.

When you watch people walking and want to correct their posture.

When you choreograph to anything, even the rain dripping off of the roof.

When you hear any piece of music and instead of singing along, start writing a new dance!!

when you see kids you don't know at the grocery store and you think "you'd love my dance class". Or you see some little kid doing something cute and you watch and watch, figuring out if that would be good in a dance.

I think I've heard/seen this before but

Your dress up pants are your nicest pair of black jazz pants!
Or people ask you "how you do such a perfect messy bun" and want instructions!
Everything looks better "rhinestoned" and "blinged"
Instead of "ready set go" or before you do ANYTHING you say "5,6,7,8!!"

Haha I get this a lot! Set music right before exam time is the soundtrack to my nightmares lol!

I was reminded of this thread yesterday when I was leaving work. I usually take the stairs instead of the elevator (down 5 flights), and I've noticed lately that I count the stairs in my head in eights!

LoL to the dress pants being your nicest pair of jazz pants!! That was definitely true of me for a while!

I only count in 8s as well. I catch myself doing it especially when I exercise at the gym...

You know you're a dance teacher when you don't commit to anything in June because the recital date has not been set yet.
