I'm trying out for my school's drill team (the Silver Stars) this year and I'd love some advice. I'm getting technique and skills help from two of my friends who are already on the team, but I was wondering how to really catch the judges' eyes besides just basic smiling and confidence.

Just do everything full out, be really polite, and i was sitting with one of my coaches last year during tryouts (i'm graduated now), and even though we're an amazing team (swept region comp 2 years in a row, taken 2nd and 3rd in state...this is a big deal, because in utah dance is really intense) she said one of the biggest things she looks for is people who look like they have the potential to really improve and become great. so i think as long as you have your basics down (doubles, splits, kicks, etc) and have a good attitude you will gave great luck!
