Over the years, I've bought from a dozen different dance schools who have posted "almost new" costumes on Ebay. I keep a large permanent inventory of costumes for our repeating annual productions of Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, etc. By searching on "Curtain Call" (Ebay automates this for me, by sending me an email daily with pictures) I can find more of the costumes I already have, and add to my group - even if that costume is no longer made. It's the only way I can afford to keep my own stock of costumes!
Competition schools will even sell whole matching groups, but they don't use their school names in the listing, so I can't say which schools do this. Usually they've added trim such as crystals to these costumes, and they're better than the originals.
Many of the costumes on ebay are single, and recital grade, posted by a parent trying to empty closets. What's sad is when the latter lists a used costume for $50, stating that they originally paid $100 for it (and they probably did!!) No one bids on such costumes.
Most costumes (thousands are currently listed) are brand new and sold by long term ebay "professional" sellers who buy-up costume manufacturers (such as Curtain Call and Cicci) overstock. They have groups of the same costumes at prices lower than our wholesale, and great overnight response. |
