Teachers - Job Talk How much do Dance Team Coaches earn? en>fr fr>en By MissBee Comments: 55, member since Fri Jan 30, 2009On Sun Mar 15, 2009 04:20 PM
I just applied for a job as head coach for a small private school's Varsity Dance Team in a suburb of a major US city. I have no idea yet of how many days a week the team will practice, or for how many weeks a year, etc. The posting didn't offer any guidelines as to pay (hourly v. salaried), so I'm wondering what would be a reasonable amount to ask for in my interview?
I've not had any experience coaching a high school team before, but I've taught at and coached competition teams at private dance studios for about five years, and my bachelor's degree is in dance. I currently get $25/hour for teaching at my studio. Any suggestions would be really helpful!
Thanks!! 1 Replies to How much do Dance Team Coaches earn? |

MissBee,
Hello and congratulations! I read your post and I would like to suggest that you consider a few things that may be able help you with your dilemma.
I am sure you applied for this job because there is a passion to teach and reach each student. Aside from that, consider the time you will be putting in(for practice, games, meetings, and competeion), your skills, your experience (what you bring to the table). What other rquirements will be asked of you in this position outside of rehearsals and performances? (Fundraisers?) Just put into perspective all of your time committments for the position and your financial responsibilities. What are they wanting you to produce? Be fair, be confident, and be wise. You can also try salary.com for an idea of what to propose. I hope this helps you to begin to formulate what you are getting into and how you want to be rewarded for your efforts to make thie team the best it can ultimately become. |
