How do make long gloves and tall boot covers stay put? en>fr fr>en

For whatever reason, I've got several costumes that have either long gloves, tall boot covers, or both! Does anyone have a way to keep them from falling down? Will double sided tape work on the skin and on the tights?

Also, regarding the boot covers, the spandex on the bottom dulls the tap sounds! Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but I've truly never had to deal with these costume issues before.

Thanks in advance!

Gloves- rubberbands and roll the top down to cover it.

I probably would avoid double sided tape, although it would work. Arms have alot of fine little hairs(as do some of the dancers legs still) and with the wrong kind it could be a rough removal. Plus with gloves and the constant arm movements the tape could slowly come apart during the routine. Rubberbands are a great idea. You could use the clear elastic that they have and also make some clear bands to wear on the outside if you don't want to roll them. Another option is to sew some elastic on the insides.

For long gloves, double-stick tape only works for pictures; once the kids get moving, the fabric pulls away from the tape & the gloves fall down anyway. I've got a seamstress who zaps them on her sewing machine to make them fit. We use tape for pix, then she pins & sews them for the show/dress rehearsals. We do the same for spats--sew'em!

As for spats for tappers, we cut the part off that covers the toe taps, then stick a velcro dot on the toe of both the spat & the shoe that adheres them to each other. They peel right off the shoes after the performance, but do a good job of holding the spats in place. You can find velcro dots at any store w/a sewing department.

Hope this helps!

We sew elastic into the top of gloves and boot covers so that it stays up.

"fashion tape" works great for all sorts of costume fixes. You should find it at fabric or lingerie stores. It is also sold on QVC or HSN.

I've used double stick tape, but I found that for gloves at least, what works best are hair elastics in the same color as the glove. They don't move at all and you can't tell they are there. As far as boot covers, you could sew elastic onto the inside of them to keep them up. I find that worls better with the boots than the gloves.
