So... my studio's spring break started sunday and I am going out of my mind! In three days I have choreographed a 4 min number, also two 3 min numbers, and made lesson plans for the remainder of the session (until the end of may). Yesterday my father became very angy because I was counting out "one two three" while he was rambling about something on the phone. Today I caught myself strechting in the tub and at dinner a woman in the bathroom washing her hands laughed at me because i was practicing tendus while washing my hands.

"Hello my name is Tap2much and I'm a dancaholic."

When your studio has vacation time do you find yourself going crazy or do you just enjoy the time off?

if you suffer from my issue, what odd things have you found yourslf doing while you were slowly loosing your mind?

"hello taps2much!!"

i usually TRY to relax while on vacation, but here are some things i do all the time:

1)bust out in the middle of walmart and do an 8 count of whatever pops in my mind (my fiance has learned to just keep shopping)

2)turn from room to room in my apartment (i can't just get up and walk to the bedroom, i have to turn, jump, slide or something)

3)use every counter in my house as a barre to stretch

these are just to name a few, so believe me you are not alone! if i named them all we would be here all night.

i'm sure that woman in the bathroom thought you were nutty!

"hello taps2much"

I'd like to introduce myself. I'm coastdancecenter and I'm a dancaholic.

Yes. I enjoy my down time as well. I do try and chill a bit. But it sneaks out anyway.

a) today, at a store where I was very excited about what I was purchasing, I spontaneously did some leapy-kicky thing in the air and then wondered if anybody caught me.

b) I sometimes have gotten out of bed in the middle of the night to go over a dance that I learned in class.

c) I drive two hours to go take/watch class from the most amazing people on my breaks.

d) I frequently bust a move in my kitchen while cooking dinner which confounds my 10 year old son.

You're not alone. :)

"Hello my name is "loverofballet" and I have a problem...I'm a dancaholic. I need some kind of 12 step program to help me stop, but I can only think in counts of 8...and I don't want to stop!

1. My husband says I spend way too much time on DDN.

2. I too use every countertop in my kitchen as a barre, I stretch and do port de bras, a few turns here and there, while I'm supposed to be cooking. I simply cannot cook without music playing, that leads to dancing and one of these days I'm going to burn a meal or two.

3. While shopping in a grocery store, while pushing a cart, I will do the odd classical walk.

Hello, my name is Chepyl and I too am a dancaholic.

1. I do riff walks down the aisles of the grocery store.
2. I use the shopping cart as a dance partner for "lifts" (I run and jump pushing up on a full cart of groceries and glide down the empty aisle!)
3. I am constantly choreographing something in my head.
4. I see my addiction affecting my children - my son sings and dances more than I do and my daughter (13 months) took her first dance steps this week, they included and turn and a bow!
5. I start a lot of sentences to my husband and my business partner with - "I saw this on DDN...!"

Hello taps2much, my name is hummingbird and I am a dancaholic. Mine is a serious case, I was born into an afflicted family, my mother was a Ballet dancer, she did everything she could to stop my addiction, but to no avail :(
After 20 years of marriage, my long suffering husband is sort of getting used to it, he still doesn't like the requests for strange pieces of scenery for him to make. My kids refuse to bring round their friends as they never know if I'll be leaping around the lounge or kitchen choreographing or practicing.
My studio's close for the summer in a few weeks, but I'm allowed to feed my habit with some summer lessons and starting my choreography for September.
I think my most dangerous dance thing would be choreographing as I drive, it's not the best of places or times to try and dance and I should really try and stop it, but I get such good ideas then :/
By the time people get to my age they really should have grown out of running around the room pretending to be a fairy, but it's such fun.

Hello taps2much(and ms_tiffy, coastdancecenter, loverofballet, chepyl and hummingbird) my name is DancingDiva736 and I am here to stand up and admit that I am a dancaholic.

I have a continuous problem with tapping my feet on any floor that I can hear myself on. The people on the floor below me at work probably think that the ceiling is caving in.

I am not nor have I ever been a strong ballet/lyrical dancer, however I find myself choreographing and dancing to every slow tempo song that I hear.

My husband is in to music and loves to sing, to the majority of the time if there is music on he is playing his air guitar and singing along, while I am leaping and turning through the house.

I'm on a bowling league and when I am standing on the lane waiting for my ball return, I stand in first position and practice my plie. I get some very interesting looks from the other members of the league.

It is so wonderful that we are all able to speak to openly about our addictions :)

Hello my name is dancengroovegirl and I too am a danceaholic!

My bf constatnly tells me to shut up because I'm rambling about dance that he's heard for the millionith time and he's tired of it. or he just tunes me out and when I tell him something of vital importance he doesn't hear me.

I too am constatly driving in my car and I know for sure that people are giving me strange looks

Dancindiva- my bf does the same thing as your husband- he gets on me for dancing in the car while at the same time he's playing his air guitar. Of course if I ever need to find a song - he finds it the very next day.

hello my name is darlin_dancer and I'm a dancaholic.

1. I cannot listen to music without choreographing or counting (my boyfriend gets angry because that means I cannot sleep with music on).
2. up and down aisles, across the store, from room to room, doesn't matter... I have to dance. My mom used to make fun of me because I dance everywhere.
3. kitchen counter= ballet barre, to every dancer anywhere.
4. if I have no space to dance, I will just go on releve.
5. I am on ddn atleast 8 times a day.

I am so happy to know this is normal for a dancer.

darlin_dancer I'm so glad I'm not the only one, if there's music on I'm working.
And I hate it when my husband switches tracks halfway through a piece of music, it's like cutting off a piece of a painting, when you do it, it makes no sense any more, it takes away it's form. He just says I'm being obsessive :O...... or a dancaholic :D

hello all. My name is ifdancecouldkill and I'm a danceaholic

1. No matter where I am, if there is music on and I am walking....I can't help but walk to the beat. Sometimes I feel embarrassed by it and try my hardest not to pay attention to the music and just walk...never works...I just end up looking like a weirdo taking short step after long step after 2 short...etc.

2. I too have started many conversations with "I saw this post on DDN..."

3. If I'm in my car or any public place and a great song to choreograph to comes on I get this glazed over look (because I'm imagining choreo) and I'm sure the people around me think I've lost it!

4. I put off my REAL work (you know, the one that I actually make money doing) to work on dance stuff....and I don't charge the hours for it.

Thanks for listening. I feel a relapse coming on.....

hello my name is jockeyrae and i'm a danceaholic.

I tried to quit approx five years ago when my new found husband thought dancing is a waste of time, I became the closet dancer. tapping in whisper quiet method while brushing my teeth and stopping when I hear his footsteps near the bathroom door, choreographing routines in the shower with music I had heard that day, grooving in the kitchen and housework when no one is around. always slyly reading dance magazine in the newsagents for the new exciting news, bottle feeding my babies and hopping on youtube in the early hours of the morning with earphones on.
spending 40mins plus on the treadmill with my mp3 choreographing allsorts in my head.scouring ebay etc to look at all the costumes for sale. personally with my headcase I think doing tendues while washing hands is totally sane.
My daughter begged to ballet this year and I secretly cheered!
I have now gone back to classes to limber up and eager to once again teach. I have so much to give!!!! I just gotta convince my husband that it is so much better for me than a 9-5 job ha ha ha!!!

Hi, everyone, my name is lmtdance and I am danceaholic!

I've been a danceaholic so long that my 15 year old son and 12 year old daughter don't even blink when I bust out a triple pirouette while cooking eggs.
My husband just understands that if I am gone to a competition he should not expect me back before midnight as I just have to stay to watch every dance to get inspiration.
My friends tell me I look too much like a dancer when we go out and I am doing chainne turns while line dancing.
I encourage random children at Wal Mart to bust a move like me!
I think I may need some help. but I really don't wanna stop!
