The disco community represents about 35% of dance.net in terms of unique visitors, but the posting activity generates in excess of 50% of the total daily posts. This is not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination (the more the merrier I say!), but it does tend to crowd out other topics from the Hot! section. Since disco is thriving yet insular--most disco members are probably using the disco hot pages--I want to give the other areas at dance.net a chance to grow. So we're going to eliminate disco topics from the hot! page as a test.

The alternative was to generate two or more types of hot! pages specialized by region, but at the moment, this operation is too expensive in terms of CPU & database time for us to contemplate. We'll likely try to do this whenever the next server upgrade happens.

So if you're not seeing disco topics there, now you know why. It's not to punish disco but to try to give other dance forms better exposure.

I stopped using the Hot button years ago because it seemed like all I ever saw was disco photo & posts on various disco topics. Which are fine, but not an interest of mine.
I like the Hot! button because it exposes you to parts of DDN that you may not be used to visiting.

Great idea! Some of the other topics might not get lost in the shuffle and I'll be excited to see other areas grow or get more attention. Thanks Linh.

I was so excited when I saw this post, I went straight over to the Hot! page to see, but it's still full of disco posts, mostly from the Good Luck board. Just me?

Maybe it isn't something that was going to happen immediately when the Linh posted this. Maybe this is more of a heads up and it is being completed sometime in the next 24 hours.

Especially early in the day (Central time) Hot! just seems to be all Disco. Then it's hunt and peck to find new posts to threads I'm interested in.

Being a discoer, I used to click the 'hot' button when i wanted to see/contribute to popular non-disco related topics...but i gave up a couple of years ago.

I am from the disco boards and think this is a great Idea
I can now go to the HOT Page and see other things that I have not seen on Disco
