I am thinking of doing a small group open next year using Straight Jackets.

Does anyone know where I can find these?

We did a dance with straight jackets that we ordered from a Halloween costume site. Problem was, "one size fits all" was all that they had - which fits an extra large man, not really a petite teenager. So, I had to pay double to have them all taken in by a seamstress. Your best bet is to just have them made for you - get some off-white fabric and buckles, then have them stenciled in black lettering in the front to look like a psych ward.

Good luck!

My most advanced tappers are doing a routine to Maralyn Mansons Beautiful People. I got ours from www.realstraightjackets.com These are made to order and you can customize them. I got black material with tan straps. They are well made and he will cut you a deal when ordering multiple qtys. I ordered 6 @ $50 each. The girls LOVE them.

Email Eddie at sk8rhi@yahoo.com and tell him that Shannon from Metro Dance Company in Michigan gave you the info!

Well that would have made my life a lot easier! It also depends if the kids have to eventually use their arms though. Ours did. We ended up using velcro on the sleeves and back, so that it matched up with the buckles on the back and sleeves.

What a freaky website!

I was gonna say a halloween store as well, but the website for "all your straight jacket needs" seems to be awesome for customizing.

I did a dance like this last year, I made the kids straight jackets. I used mens white button down shirts, cut off the collar, then took of the buttons. added velcro, then put numbers on the front.

Trust me the kids like them and the parents loved them, the total cost per shirt was $10. $50 for a straight jacket that's crazy to me.

We did our own, or should I say had our costumer make them. We danced to Paranoid.

Yes, $50 is pricy if you are purchasing more components to the costume. Fortunatly, that is all we had to purchase. The girls are wearing their own black leos and booty shorts underneith.

We NEEDED a sturdy jacket because the girls are doing backwards rolls & 6 turns in 2nd into a tripple. Their arms are tied up for the whole dance until the very end where they do a tripple while bringing their arms above their head to reveal that they are no longer tied up. We figured out an easy way to release the straps by looping them into a knot where all you have to do is yank one strap to release the strap so that they can move their arms.

They all plan on using the straight jackets for halloween...or to tie up their younger brothers and sisters after recital! :)

I had to have a costume featuring a straight jacket the other year. I just bought a long sleeved crew neck t-shirt, held my arms around my body, but accented with buckles. Looked pretty dang real. And it was just cheaper.
