Guys Only Building much-needed flexibility en>fr fr>en By chickenneo123 Comments: 64, member since Thu Oct 26, 2006On Sat May 23, 2009 07:14 PM
I'm 16 now, and a serious dancer. My only big issue is flexibiliy, My splits are getting there but I can't seem to get any closer no matter how hard I try, and my kicks and devlopes (hope i spelt that right) I still find are hard to get high and looking good. I can say I can jump HIGH but I wish I could use that for jetes and other jumps that require flexibility. Does anyone have any good "tricks" or tips to really getting a good streching of my flexiblity? 4 Replies to Building much-needed flexibility |

try stretching with some sort of hot water thing, on where you want to stretch out.
because heat helps loosen some of oyurmuscles, and it might help you stretch a bit more. |

Remember when streching to have a good warm-up to get the blood flowing. Stretching cold is bad. And cool down after stretching. For front and side devlopes.. Stretch out your thighs and raise your leg as high as you can and hold it for 10 counts and lower and repeat a couple of times and you can raise your leg lower it 2 inches and back up and repeat a few times. Remember to stretch after those exercises too.. Hope that helps! =)

Absolutely make sure you're warm, and consistency in your practice is key.
I would also recommend investigating muscular release techniques, by massaging the muscles and fascia (which is a sheath that covers the muscles). Points of tension will prevent you from achieving your maximum flexibility.
Flexibility is a very complex issue...it's not just a matter of stretching in the splits to get them. Breaking them down and isolating what it is you need to stretch can help a lot. Like for some people, they can't get the splits because of tight hamstrings, while others can't do them because of tight hip flexors. Figure out what it is your body needs the most and work on that first.
There are some things I can recommend, but it would be helpful to know what you want to address the most (and not just splits!). People write books on this kinda stuff, so it would help to know some more specifics. |

I stretch daily, and I find it really good when I get home from the gym, to have a hot shower, and then stretch afterwards!!! My muscles are already warm and I can get straight into it!!! Or do a good warm up and then stretch!!! Just keep trying and you'll get there!!! You could also try yoga or something along that line! I do bodybalance at my gym which is great to build flexibility, and work on your core, back, strength etc...
Hope I helped good luck!!! |
