The thing about air chairs is that they're all about balance. Do you take breaking classes at a studio with ballet barres? If not, I guess you could substitute a chair or something. My teacher had us hold onto the bar with our non-stabbing hand for support so we could focus on where to place our elbow for the best balance and most comfort. It doesn't seem like much since if you're battling or something, you won't be able to hold onto a barre but it really does help. It helps you get used to the position (airchairs are a little awkward at first) so you're more comfortable holding it later on when you can do it without the barre.
Once you're comfortable doing it with the barre, try doing them without it. You won't be able to hold them for long but the more you practice, the better you'll get. I've been working on them for a long time (although not consistently) and I can only hold them for a second or two on a good day.
Good luck! |

I only disagree with the above, because I had to learn without a barre. Haha. No, seriously, I really only disagree, because some people develop a dependency on the barre.
Practice, practice, practice, and more practice. With b-boying comes frustration and time, but the more frustrated you get, the more time you need. Don't worry about not getting it, and make sure not to go into the freeze with too much "oomph" or it won't necessarily happen. Does that make any sense... >.>
Haha.
Good luck!!! It'll come in time. I promise. |
