Hi

Can anyone help us find new dance classes, we are moving
near to Wollongong. Think we might be able to go as far as Sydney if it is weekend classes. I know you dont do
disco over there but we would love to get involved in something competitive open to all suggestions.

We have done ballet and jazz and a bit of hip hop.

you may get more replies if you post this in the other dancing areas eg, jazz, ballet ect. There are heaps of schools in sydney and i think a fair few in Wollongong.

I believe Wollongong (or 'the Gong' as it is colloquially known as) is around 2 hours or so from Sydney, so you'd probably not want to commute there every weekend for classes. There are probably plenty of dance schools around the 'Gong that you could go to - I'd probably wait until you get here and check them out.

Judging on what I've read the Disco threads, I don't know if you'll find anything anywhere near as competitive here in Australia - I think we're much more docile in nature and less cut-throat when it comes to eisteddfods and competitions, although others would be more able to comment on that than I.

Also, save yourself a lot of excess luggage and leave the heavy makeup, bobby-bedazzlers and costumes at home - we're also a lot more sedate on those sorts of things (red lipstick, black mascara and a bit of eyeshadow only required!) unless you're trying out for a part in Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Lauren - I've been reading the thread in the 'Advice' board about what disco is, and have been thinking (scary thought, I know!)

It might be worthwhile you looking into something over here that we call 'Sport Aerobics'. Whilst not exactly along the same lines as Freestyle Disco, it does use a similar pace, is the same high energy levels and have some similarities as far as moves go.

It's a fairly niche sort of sport - not being as popular as dance is in the general community - but you could probably look into some gyms around where you and Kerri will be and she could possibly do this, as well as jazz, ballet or hip hop.

Hi I live in wollongong and my daughter has a dance studio.
There are a few good ones down here.
Were are you going to live down this way?
It also depends if you want fun or serious.
Our younger classes are serious and our older ones are fun.
We are more into Hip Hop and Contempoary and Jazz.
What school are you going to? Lots of questions I know.
Joanne Grace is great for technique and for the more serious.
NRG are cheerleaders and dancers.
Go to google and check them out.
