Asia - General advice on adult ballet lessons? en>fr fr>en By rose17 Comments: 3, member since Tue Jun 16, 2009On Wed Jun 17, 2009 04:25 AM
Hey,
I read a few previous threads on this similar topic in the forum but they were quite old and I couldnt post more questions up there...
I'm 14 and planning to take up some adult ballet lessons and I would like to take RAD exams if possible... I was planning to go to Attitude Arts Studio then when I checked, its really far from my house, and I would take an hour plus to go there, then another hour to get home. Is it worth it to spend so much time? Is the studio so good? Does anyone have other recommendations for good studios?
Oh, has anyone heard of Cheng Ballet? It does seem pretty good, but I don't know much about it. I heard the fees are pretty steep, but the teachers are really great. Seems that they were ex SDT dancers.
Also, whats the difference between a leather and canvas ballet slipper? Oh, and how long will it take to go en pointe? Is there a maximum age that one can go en pointe?
thanks:) 2 Replies to advice on adult ballet lessons? |

Looking through previous threads is a good idea for finding studios. Some well-known places you can try adult ballet classes (apart from Attitude and Cheng Ballet) include Dance Arts, Jitterbugs and Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT). I have heard on DDN that are a few CCs which have excellent teachers too.
I would advise that you should try a few open classes at different places and see which teacher's style you like best and are most comfortable with
How long it takes to go en pointe-- much depends on the dancer. Ankle stability and core/leg strength are very important. Your ballet teacher will let you know when you are ready Going en pointe before you are ready is potentially dangerous. This is something you can read more on the Ballet General Board...
Happy dancing! |

Hey,
If you want to learn syllabus ballet, I'd suggest you learn from a CC - Community Centre. Most of the classes there are RAD/Vocational. Most other adult ballet schools eg Jitterbugs dont offer exams routinely. SBA is another place you can try, but I've heard you need to 'audition' to get into their syllabus classes.
Good Luck.. |
