Next session I will be offering a Creative Movement class. I would love to have a class outline. If you have any suggestions or tips, please let me know. Also, if you know of any good books, movies, syllabuses, and online resources; it would be greatly appreciated! I would like to be overly prepared! 13 Replies to I Need Help Starting A Creative Movement Class!!! |

Our Creative movement classes all have a theme we go around,
Things such as: listening skills, animals, letters and numbers, opposites, bean bag class, ball class, shapes, tropical, be my partner - it goes on...
We've found if you plan the themes ahead and send a list home with parents of whats going on each week the child gets really excited anticipating the next weeks class. We have to do opposites class probably more then any other because the kids love it. We get out maracas in that class to practice loud/quiet. And they have fun making funny face/serious face, and being big/being small. Thats probably one my favorites to teach as well...
Recently I've seen postings on here about this website: abcfordance.com I haven't purcahsed any of their programs yet, but plan to after reading the good reviews for them on these threads. |

I highly recommend checking our creativedance.org. I have studied with Anne for 2 years and have revamped all of my classes to include more creative movement. Both of her books, Creative Dance for all Ages, and Brain-Compatible Dance Education are both worth purchasing. She is the best!
Good luck! |

Hi,
I am a creative dance teacher. Anne Green Gilbert's books have wonderful ideas. I would also like to suggest using Helen Landolf's book - Movement Stories for Children ages 3-6. She also studied with Anne and my students just LOVE stories as part of the class. These stories use movement concepts and are a lot of fun and very educational. The book can be purchased on Amazon. Please let me know if I can hep in any other way. |

I second Anne Green Gilbert's books! "Creative Dance for All Ages" was a lifesaver for me when I first began teaching creative movement. Though I do not have any specific lesson plans to give you, I will say that I had great success with props-- hula hoops, ribbon sticks, parachutes, beanie babies, bean bags, scarves, etc-- the more variety, the better!
Good luck! |

I teach creative movement and dance as a elementary physical education specialist. I use the Laban Movement Educational Framework of body, space, relationships, and quality of movement concepts for work alone, with a partner, and in a small group situation. This uses the problem soloving, cognitive, cooperative, and improvisation learning techniques for students. I use a variety of progs such as beanbags, scarves, hoops, wants, masks, and more. You can use children's literature books and poetry and focus on a theme such as animals, insects, ocean, country, color, farm, etc. I have presented nationally on this topic. Movement Education is the best way to educate children in creative movement and dance skills. |

I have lots of lesson plans using Anne's methodology. I have taken over 100 hours of training with Anne and have been teaching her method for the past 2 years. You can learn a fair amount from her website. Her books are fabulous and have some lesson plans however, they are only a limited number of preschool lessons. I would be happy to help you if you want. |
