A good teacher teachers their dancers to spot, that should prevent them from having "dizzy feet" - i don't think I want that certification! I don't want "dizzy feet" or dizzy dancers!

Exactly to the above, I don't need any dizziness to my life. Plus who seriously thought any reputable teacher would want a certification with the word "dizzy" in the title.

Apparently this is to be the 'gold standard' for dance instruction, that must mean that all of those other qualifications like RAD, Cecchetti Society and all of those degree's in dance must be silver or 'heaven forbid' bronze, perhaps they are even 'gasp' merit standard.
The very name Dizzy Feet makes me think of a preschool playgroup or kindergarten name.
Now I'm going back to my finger painting !!

In regards to the name - if you look up Nigel on Twitter, that appears to be the name he has been using on his profile for some time. Just thought it was an interesting connection.

Yeah, I thought the certification aspect of the foundation sounded hokey. It's one thing if you are RAD certified - they have a specific syllabus, etc. But even with the ABT teacher certification, it's like gathering a bunch of teachers (all who teach a variety of different styles) and saying "this is what we want you to teach."
Well, now this foundation certification is trying to encompass all types of dance. How is that ever going to work?
When it comes to pre-pro ballet studios, I think students and parents look more at who has graduated from the studio and whether they've gotten into professional companies (and/or college dance programs) - not so much certification or whether the teacher belongs to a professional organization. That's partly why I think the ABT teaching certification is a joke...
And yeah, the name is an interesting (read - bad choice?) for a dance foundation. It sounds made up.

hahaha This is funny. When I heard it I was on my way to Las Vegas to work on my certification. I think its a personal choice but definitely not needed. I felt that it would help me as a young studio owner. If not well, I am sure there is something I will get out of it, right? : ) I am just so tired of this "I know I'm a dancer and I want to be famous, crap. I like the dancing but since this show started too many people think you are'nt a good dancer or a teacher unless you are somehow connected with the fame of these people or the show. Not everyone wants to be famous in life! lol Ok, sorry. I rarely vent but now I'm over it! : )

I agree with you completely. Dance has been around way before this show and people need to understand that these now "famous" dancers started out learning from not so famous people.

they want to certify every studio to teach "all" forms of dance yet..aside from one duo the other night (1st time in 5 years) has anyone seen any ballet or tap? is there anyone on the panel associated as a "name" in either ballet or tap? if they plan to change the teaching standard nationally, you can't do that if you only include hip hop, ballroom, jazz, and contemporary.....oh i forgot "disco" which i'm sure most of you teach-ha ha ha

tapnut I totally agree not a single person has performed tap on the actual performing stage since the show started. Why? because they don't have choreographers that are qualified in that area.
And some of my students even say they don't do tap on so you think you can dance, why do we have to do it. Then I reply with a prompt "this is my class, my group" we do what I want so I want to tap then you tap.
Of course afterwhile the students started to enjoy it more. But the fact that "dizzy feet" is discrediting such organizations as Cecchetti council, Dance Masters, RAD and etc. Really is disrespectful because the marvelous teachers that taught all the dancers that make your show money, are the ones that learned from such organizations.
My last statement on this is "Dizzy Feet" is going to swallow their tongue, and the certification is going to never come about. And they will just give away scholarships!

They would be better off setting up something like we have in Britain and which accreditation we are going for.
it is CDET the Council for Dance Education & Training. All the major organisations (RAD, BBO, ISTD etc) are members and you have to certify that your teachers are qualified with one of these organisations and that you adhere to health & safety, customer relations and police check etc policies.

I still would like to know why they don't include clogging. They did say ALL dance forms...
They clearly thumb their noses at anything other than lyrical/modern on the show, so you know the emphasis will be on that. That's why I'm not a regular viewer until the last few are standing. It starts to get repetitive.

You never know! Maybe one of them is a member here, silently seeing how we discuss this. Maybe one of our members has connetions with a Dizzy Feet (or should i say with TWO Dizzy Feet) and makes it possible for them to read this.

Yes, and many wonderful teachers are not certified anywhere, and many not so good ones are. It is just that many awesome dancers just had awesome teachers.
Why do we need ANOTHER certification, anyway? I can tell you... someone will make money from it.

Yeah I have not kept up to date on my certifications, but I am a great teacher. Eventhough I am not up to date on my certifications, I still train religiously with some of the best in the craft.

I took two certifications, plus I have taught for dance organizations to teachers, I was shocked at some people who called themselves teachers and would brag of their great certification and training. Then I would watch or teach their kids in workshops, or competitions, and cringe with disgust.
Not to say that some certifications are not excellent, but some are borderline, or worse and mean absolutely nothing to me. I am a better teacher now, than when I was certified and have not kept up with mine either.
