Teachers - Competitions Do you go to nationals every year? en>fr fr>en By avandy83 Comments: 539, member since Wed Mar 11, 2009On Thu Jul 02, 2009 10:14 AM
I was just curious as to who all goes to nationals every year. If you don't go every year, how do you determine when you're going to go. Do you alternate with something else every other year (like a Christmas show or a convention or something). Or do you just do it every other year to cut down on costs? If you do go often, like every year, do you do the same nationals each time? Just wondering! 6 Replies to Do you go to nationals every year? |

We go every year. We only do clogging comps, though. Entry fees are reasonable (run along $10) and you don't have to go to the degree of costuming like dance comps.
With my old studio and the studios I've taught at, we did natls every year as well. Participation was bare bones, though. |

When I had my own school, yes we did and it was mandatory for the comp team. The only time we did not were years that we went to dance at Disney/Universal/Sea World theme parks as it was a huge trip. Then I made it optional. |

We go every year. However, I only let groups that get Gold or Platinum go. Actually, with Spotlight it's Ruby or Diamond. Call it what you will, but they actually GIVE '3rd place' which is emerald about 30 percent, and if one of our groups gets emerald, they don't go. Of course that's not the competition rule, that's my rule. We had 4 groups out of 15 not qualify this year. |

Last year was our first attending nationals again, in a long time. But we have extended the option to all the soloist and duets, are studio is still rebuilding.
Last year only 3 students attended, this year we had a total of 8 routines attend. So our number of entries almost doubled, and the way the nationals is set up it can be a great little day trip or have the option to spend the night.
Nationals are a pretty close distance to us, so more families are starting to go.
Eventually when the economy turns around we can take groups again. |

We do nationals every year. However, we do a local National one year and the next year we travel to a National. Our parents like it that they don't have to use their vacation every year. We also try and change it up with the travel Nationals. This year we traveled, next year it will be local. |
