I took five students (two solos, two duos) to the USTD last regional. We had not planned it but I asked who wanted to go. We did not do the national. I warned them that they score harder than most comps they are used to doing and no platinum awards and they do give out bronze, now and then, high gold being the highest and gold being a REAL gold score, not just a bronze or silver in disguise.

Well, one girl took her class lyrical dance and we converted it to a solo, and two girls took their class jazz dance, also converted. The other solo was always a solo and the other duo had been a trio and adjusted.

Well, they sold their butts off. They are amazing personalities on stage, even if they need some technical work in some spots. Just wanted to share!

We will not hear the comments until we get the DVD critiques, but three of them scored a gold and the duo tha was a class number just missed gold by one point, and a special award for their onstage attitude and presentation. I loved what the special awards judge said, "They came out like they were the reason we were all here!" LOL

They were very happy when they saw that they indeed do give out low awards at this competition.

I did not teach any of these dances, but they are my students in other classes and great kids. WE had a nice day and it was good to see some old friends, Linda and Rachel from Horizons, some of my old students and colleagues who I worked with in NY. It was a long day but they were impressed with how it was run and maybe next year they will do the national.
