I'm trying to learn how to do continuous elbow rolls. I can do a double elbow roll, but I can't do 3. Does the baton HAVE to roll behind your back and then over the elbow again? Because I was watching Hollie Neilson and she doesn't always do that. can someone explain how to do the continuous elbow rolls?

I do take classes, but we never learn any advance stuff like this, and I would really love to know how to do this! I was looking at ordering a DVD from Twirling Unlimited: www.batontwirlingunltd.com . . .

The only moves in the beginner I don't know how to do are the roly-poly,half turn, 1 turn, body pass, Left back hand toss, Merry-go round, Big circle, little circle.

So, should I get the beginner DVD, or the intermediate one? The intermediate is the one that has 3 elbows, and the more advance stuff I want to learn to do. But I don't know if the beginner moves I don't know how to do are linking movements. Without them, can I do the intermediate one? If someone could explain the above moves, that would be great! (Or if they have different names?) Maybe I do know how to do them, I just don't call them by that name?

Thank you SO much for your help! I know I'm asking a lot, and I'm sorry if I'm confusing! Any questions you answer are great! Thank you!

When I teach this.....I emphasize:
1. Start your turn on the first elbow roll. Don't wait until you are in the second elbow roll to begin your turn.
2. Keep your elbows high making sure the baton rolls on the upper part of your arm closer to your shoulders.
3. Count as you go from elbow roll to elbow roll.....1....2....3....4..... Provides a measure of time and eveness.
These three hints almost always guarantees my students success with elbow rolls. Hope this helps.

first. make sure you are doing the correct steps (left right left ect.)
and a tip i always needed was make sure on your first elbow when you initially start the roll, place the baton angled almost towards your right shoulder/head. this makes sure it will continue to roll and be high enough on your arms.

Also make sure you work on your footwork, and positioning of the arms, elbows, it does make a difference.

ooh and if it doesn't go behind your back im pretty sure its more a cutback then an elbow roll... (A tip: the closer it is to your body the easier).
my opinion is to get the more advanced dvd and not waste your time. especially if you learn by watching, any easy moves you didnt know, you could watch over and over until you can do it too.

Twirler_chick, I am anxious to know if you are having more success with your elbow rolls as you try these hints. Are you finding something that works yet????? It is always fun to hear some results.

Hi everyone! thank you for your replies! I started practicing as soon as you guys replied, and I'm getting better! My DVD also arrived yesterday in the mail, so I immediately turned it on and started, and they showed me how to do 3 elbow rolls, and I caught them eventually (after a few drops of course lol)! I still need alot of practice, but everyone's tips helped, especially the ones about counting and the height of your elbows! i've been working alot lately, so haven't had anymore time to practice, but I will soon!

Thanks everyone! I'll keep you posted! :)
