I have some costumes to sell after AYOP. How do you think the best way is to sell them? Ebay??

Ebay is definitely the safest, but make sure you pay attention to the fees charged... You can lose $10 to $15 in fees.

Also, as a buying veteran, please list the approximate size your daughter was when she wore the costume. Measurements are great, but I always ask what the approximate size is as measurements can be deceiving. Lastly, lots of pictures, both laying flat and being worn is best.

Oh, and personally I suggest not setting a reserve, or stating the reserve price in the listing. It seems that costumes with a reserve don't do nearly as well. I think this has to do with people not wanting to bother if the reserve is too high.

I am definitely an ebay fan for both buying and selling and have had success with both. In fact I get most of my daughters costumes there since I outright refuse to spend hundreds of dollars on a Kennerly or ShowOff until she STOPS growing 4 inches every year!!!

When selling I agree with Sesame, flat measurements are good but if you can give the street clothes size or the measurements while the costume is on even better because your definition of a lot of stretch and someone elses might be different.

Definitely give an accurate description of the costume as possible, not just pictures - what kind of fabric, was it a homemade or professionally made costume, what kind, color, size stones and about how many. Did you embellish the costume yourself or was it purchased that way. If I have a handful of left over stones and they are color specific to the costume I usually include them in the auction too so they can be used as replacements - we all know stones fall off at some point. I do make sure I look over the costume very very carefully and replace any missing stones I see. Don't try to gloss over tears or imperfections as the buyer will just get pissed because they didn't know the costume needed repairs.

I would be cautious about pricing yourself out of the market too. While you may have paid several hundred dollars for a custom costume, your typical ebay shopper (like me) is on ebay because they don't want to pay that much. Before you list, do a search for baton costume, baton twirling and twirling costume and see what else is currently listed and what their starting prices were.

Another avenue I use but which may not help you if you are trying to sell old costumes to buy new ones now, is I will take costumes that no longer fit my daughter to local contests and hang them in the hall with my name, cell number and asking price. I have had a lot of success selling costumes this way too. I have found the $50-60 price range works best for me since they are children;s size costumes.

Of course I always offer the costumes to my daughters younger/smaller team mates before I sell them to anyone else.....

My ebay tip is don't start to high and don't use a reserve. It can be very stressful selling on ebay if you expect a lot of money for the costume or dress. I always start with the lowest price I would take (often $50). Many times I am very excited about how much I ended up getting!!!! Always remember getting something is better than it hanging in your closet for years. Also sell quickly after wearing because styles tend to change about every 5 years and it will stay in better condition.

You could also post them on dance.net and see if anyone is interested in them!
