Hi

Just wondering if anyone obtained their DFTA teaching certificate for Ballet?

Im not quite sure how it works but according to dance factory, i am able to do the short course and once i have reached Level 5 jazz, i am able to do the associate jazz teachers exam.
The only problem i have is, i have no intrest in jazz whatsoever and only want to obtain ballet qualification. I was told this is not possible because i have to do Jazz to get classical qualification.

Can someone give me more information on this?

I am not planning to do a full time course because its not possible at the moment so my options will include doing this short course , or doing RAD teachine course (in which i am considering), and doing teaching qualifications under other syllabuses. Right now I am quite keen on doing DFTA as it fits around my schedule the best.

Share your opinions

Thanks~

The DFTA qualification doesnt really mean much or give you much. All it means is that you can teach their ballet (jazz or tap) syllabus. Which is just a syllabus that they have made up at Dance Factory. You would be much better off using your time to get your RAD teaching certificate as this is an internationally recognised syllabus for ballet and is a formal qualification. Hope that helps

Hi Scraby
I wouldn't recommend doing the DFTA course if you are serious about ballet - the ballet at DF is more for those whose focus is jazz, tap or hiphop but who need more technical training. The DFTA isn't widely recognised and the ballet syllabus is new this year (I did their Associate teachers exam years ago).

As Allegria said, it's better to work towards RAD or Cecchetti if you are serious about ballet. I saw your other post about National Theatre, Australian Conservatoire and Essentially Ballet. I danced (as an adult) at Essentially Ballet before they offered full-time and Lynda was great - very strict and really knows her stuff. I don't think City Dance Centre offer their Extensions program any more but you could call and ask - casual and/or private classes there would be a huge help until you are free to do full time, they are great.

I would recommend looking around at schools that offer a widely-recognised syllabus like RAD and starting off with that with whatever time you've got.

Best of luck with your dance career!
