Just wondering if anyone had any tips for slowing down rolls...
mine seem to be okay but I find they start really fast and come out bouncy, I guess I am also looking for more control.
thanks for your help! :)

It's hard to tell without seeing you do the section, BUT . . .

It could have to do with the trick you do before your roll section begins. If it's a really fast trick you might not have the control you need to go into the section.

Not knowing the roll section or type of roll your doing, it would be hard help you with that.

Basically what I mean is continuous elbow rolls and repeating layouts.
After about three or four elbows its bounces around my shoulder or elbow and falls off.
And when doing layouts I open my arm and it rolls out too fast and I dont have time to bring it in to fishtails or back up into an elbow roll.

Hope this helps :)

to slow down a roll like that is take bigger steps. Otherwise, you need to move your body faster to handle the added speed.

Where is the baton rolling before you catch your layout? It's on the inside of your arm, right? You need to get the baton so that it will roll on the top of your arm/wrist so that you can do fishtails. What do you need to do to with your arm so that the baton will want to do fishtails on top of your wrist? What works for me is starting to move my arm in a fishtail motion after the baton hits the crease in my elbow. Other people may have other ways of doing it.

Rolls are all really a balancing act. If you aren't rolling or getting bouncy rolls it is usually because your body is changing speeds or your footwork is not matching your baton. A trick I learned long ago is to sing during your rolls and keep in time with your feet. the next thing could be your step size is it consistent? Are you up on your toes the whole time or going up and down? That could also make them bounce. As for the extension it is probably your body facing at the time of your "opening up" on the rolls. I hoped this helped out. It is tough to say exactly what it might be as we can't see you but those are a few suggestions.

Thanks so much!
this has all been really helpful, I do think it is because by body is rushing as I am twirling so I will try your advice tomorrow and tell you how it goes :)

For rolls to be "rolls" and not "manipulations", check these:

-Pressure
-Placement
-Pattern

Persistent Practice will make them Perfect!
