I went back and forth between 32 and 33. For some reason the 33 were like twirling logs. Cant get used to them. So I am on the 32's to stay. And thats not whats making the difference in the Hollywood/monsters. I just havent given it the dedicated practice with correct turn and consistency. Not going to be able to do them right off the bat standing still like Miss JM does. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. Off to Florida Twirltacular this weekend. New routine:: HALO Wish me luck
Absolutely! Everyone cheer for Walter. I just have to know where you find 32 and 33" batons. There was a girl on a squad that my sister coached for a while that is 6'3" and really needed longer than 30" batons, but that's all she could find. Did u have to special order them? Good luck this weekend!!! |

Take videos and post them here or on YouTube!
I had my first lesson last night and started building a preliminary routine. It's going to be a long haul to get my performance looking good from a bodywork standpoint but will be worth it! |

most any baton company will make what ever size you need, you just can't return them and they take a couple of days more to make. |

For OldGuyNewTwirler, I would say the BIGGEST piece of advice I can give you is "projection". Some of the most boring shows I've ever watched came from elite (superadvanced) twirlers that never smiled or made any contact with the crowd. "SELL" your show, make them know you are having a great time performing. It ALWAYS wins out over bland twirling. Even if you don't win, they'll remember you as the guy that LIKED performing. |

Thanks for the great tip! I'm sure for the elite-level twirlers who don't sell it, it's probably pretty difficult at some level to perform really hard tricks at super hub-speed while pretending it's nothing at all. My coach is working on my body lines and trying to help me not look so spastic (I can't help it, I get excited!). But once I really have the routine memorized, my higher comfort level will hopefully be reflected in my performance for the judges. |
