 Sydney Sydney for a Holiday :) en>fr fr>en By Jump Comments: 846, member since Mon May 02, 2005On Tue Aug 11, 2009 08:29 AM
Hey dancers + +,
I'm going to Sydney for a holiday at the end of September and I'm looking for some open ballet classes to go to! Any recommendations? I looked at the Syd dance company site and like someone mentioned - its rather confusing. Also, can anyone tell me if there are any ballets to watch or anything to do? I seem to have arranged my trip at a point where nothing is happening! ie, the season seems to start in Nov...
Thanks! 4 Replies to Sydney for a Holiday :) |

What is confusing you about the Sydney Dance Company website? It has always seemed very straight forward to me.
If you are staying in the city of Sydney, you'll want the Sydney timetable, not the Parramatta timetable.
If you're still having trouble with it, PM me and I can give you class times etc.
I take classes at this studio: www.adultballetstudio.com.au -all of the classes there are drop in classes, and a little more serious than the classes at Sydney Dance Co.
In terms of ballet and dance related things to do, I'd suggest you check out our national indigenous dance company, Bangarra Dance Theatre - www.bangarra.com.au. (But you also might want to do a little bit of reading up on Australian indigenous culture, otherwise it wotn make any sense to you)
Also, there is a collective arts centre called Carriage works that have regular contemporary dance productions - www.carriageworks.com.au |

The school year in Australia runs from February to early December...Then the students have the rest of December and January off for the summer break...So the dance season pretty much runs February through to anywhere up to Christmas...April is school holiday time so you may be able to find some dance workshops or competitions or something of interest that are running during the holidays. |

Hi, thanks for all your help. Its a pity the ballet season in the opera house seems to be in Nov - Dec. There aren't any 'summer' courses in Sept I could find. Just hoping to attend a few open classes to see what it's like in Australia. |

Open classes run all year round anyway, so you should be fine.
SDC is open to anyone and everyone. I used to go every week last year, but now I just go whenever I can. It is pretty much a case of walk in, pay your money, take the class. |
