There's something about dance that crosses all borders, generational, racial, religious, and political lines, that brings people together to share one or many visual and emotional experiences.
The focus of the Charlotte Dance Company is to understand and embrace the power that dancing has and how it can change any circumstance, whether it is for a second or a lifetime. By using original pieces to highlight social issues, in hopes of inspiring change, or developing a high-energy production number just for fun, offers such a range that is rarely found on a live stage anymore, especially by those who genuinely love to create, perform, and "do what they do".
CDC takes the risk of mixing traditional dance styles with urban music, creating sensitive story lines that may or may not be easy to watch, as well as, throwing in some moments where you can get out of your seat; but we also realize that it's about being honest, familiar, and entertaining to the crowd, who is there for that exact reason. The Charlotte Dance Company is kicking off it's upcoming season with a series of audition classes to professionals, semi-professionals, and any student with a growing resume or dance background. All dancers are encouraged to attend, as for, we are not looking for any specific type; just the passion, talent, and commitment level that will help make this a successful performing arts organization.

WHAT TO BRING: NO SOLO PIECES ARE REQUIRED.
- A dance resume' (if available)
- Headshot & Full Body Shot (if available)
- Dancewear including dance shoes (jazz, modern, or teaching shoes)
- Video reels, links, disks, or tapes. (if available)
Please include name and audition number on all materials. Resumes, photos, and videos will not be returned.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
It's a formal class/in-formal audition. Instructor-led: 1. Warm up 2. Across The Floor 3. Center Technique 4. Combination (Contemporary) Results will be mailed within 2 weeks.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q. What does the rehearsal schedule consist of?
A. Weekends. Whenever there is a show, rehearsals will be scheduled throughout the week, as well.
Q. Is there travel involved?
A. Light travel only during the performance season. Tour dates will be listed a season in advance.
Q. Do we need a laundry list of previous dance, theater, and work-related material on our resume?
A. No. You only need to be honest, genuine, and passionate about what you can do.
Q. Can I still have a full-time job, family, and outside life to participate?
A. Yes. You should not have to give up one to have another, and vice versa.
