I am doing hula kahiko, and i need to sing to and dance to "hiki mai" and i think i would better be able to perform if i knew what the chant is about :D

These are the lyrics:

Hiki Mai

Hiki Mai Kala

Aloha Wale

Kal E Kau Nei

Aia Ma Lalo

O Ka Wai Hola

I Lalo

O Kauai

O Lehua E

If anyone can tell me the translation that would be great! I am still in the process of learning the language and i'm not very good yet XD

Maholo!!

Hi Hawaiigirl99 - ok, well, really quick, to say 'thank you' it's actually 'Mahalo' - not 'Maholo.' Just a quick one for you there - funny, when I was living in Hawaii, I remember being at the McDonalds and some tourists were there, saw the words 'Mahalo' on the trash bin, and thought 'Mahalo' meant 'Trash Can.' They were telling their son: 'Go put your cup in the ma-hay-low!!!" He he he - we cracked up, but I can see how they could make the mistake....

ANYWAY, alright - the translation:

Hiki mai, hiki mai ka la, e = It has come, it has come, the sun

Aloha wale ka la e kau nei = Greetings to the sun placed on high

Aia malalo o Kawaihoa = There below Kawaihoa

Aka lalo o Kauai o Lehua = Below Kauai and Lehua

E ala, e ala, ea = arise

He mele no ka hikina o ka la = A song for the rising sun

Hope this helps - Kawaihoa is a point not far from Hanauma Bay.
