Hello Everyone, I was wondering how you order your jazz classes. Obviously we do warm-up, across, and combinations, but can you be more specific with me. I have read several different ways to structure a class, particularly warm-ups, and I was wondering how you like to order your class. Do you do any aerobic section int he warm-up? When do you condition? When do you isolations? Thanks for your input.

I have a set playlist (with the older girls, not sure which age range you're looking for!) that we just blow through every class for warmups - one song is a little cardio to get them moving, another for isolations, stretches, floor kicks and a stationary turn exercise if I feel like they need work on them (they do a lot of this in ballet though). Sometimes crunches go here too. Then for across the floor, the girls do basics like chasse's, jazz pas de bourres, jetes (first a set right - chasse chasse jete - then a set left), jetes in second, battements, turns... then any combo of the above usually ones I want them to work on for the dance. The rest of the class is choreography. At the beginning of the year, all of that's pretty much covered but when it's crunch time in the spring, I cut out what's not absolutely necessary and spend more time on choreo.
