Class registration is a couple weeks away and I'm already leafing through catalogs from Art Stone, A Wish Come True, Costume Gallery, Curtain Call, Revolution, and Weissmans!
What do you all think of this year's early catalog offerings? Which catalogs do you think are the winners & losers? Do you have any early favorite costumes? And finally, any costumes that have you wondering what they were thinking when they took the photograph?
Just wondering, I guess I'm getting excited for the year to start! 19 Replies to August Costume Catalog Reviews |

We all LOVE Revolution! It seems too good to be true! So cheap AND you get all of the accessories with the costumes? I wish they had a bigger book! |

I really like the look of the Revolution costumes too and the fact that you get what you see in the picture, there are no 'optional extras'. |

Its my first year getting the Revolution catalog and I am completely in love with it. I could outfit my entire spring recital with costumes from that catalog.
Curtain call has usually been my favorite in the last couple years - but I'm not finding anything from them this year that I like. -And they've raised prices in their value catalog and practically every costume is decked out with a bunch of "optionals" that cost even more, which I'm not diggin to much because we are on such a tight budget.
Just got Costume gallery today - flipped through it and saw a few cute things, But it has alot of neon in it - not to big on any of that.
Still waiting on my art stone and Weissmans, hope they come soon. I enjoy the catalogs that come in August, I'm more likely to order from the early arriving ones because I have more time to inspect them and fall in love with certain styles.
* Side note - The dancing tree picture is really neat |

Weissmans is definitely a winner this year. Some prices have raised and it's a little more expensive, but not terrible. The costume on the cover of the book is gorgeous!
I'm also not a big fan of the curtain call costumes. They think they are making it easier but really all of those separate books and tabs make it so confusing. We ordered ONE costume from them yesterday because one of our soloists was doing a character dance. I will admit it came in a very nice packaging. Everything was neat and covered in a plastic bag on a hanger. I was pretty impressed. |

Will do Revolution again for our recital. I, too, like that what I show the parents is what they get. We do lots of acro, and as Costume gallery is all bottoms and tops, it's not a big hit with us. I always like the quality of ARt Stone, and most of our competition stuff will come from there. I saw a few ads for catalogs I've never gotten in Studio Life magazine, so I've mailed letterheads and am waiting for stuff from them. For our comps I like off-the-wall weird stuff, and most of the catalogs are way too mainstream for us. |

I have only received Art Stone, Costume Gallery & Weissmans. I was supposed to have received Curtain Call, but when it came there was just the cardboard sleeve in a plastic bag from the post office that said, "Received with no contents". I called CC and they said they didn't even have the catalogs yet, they were being mailed from somewhere else, so it would be at least 1 week before I could be sent another one. Wish I would receive some more, especially Revolution. |

Got Weissmans, Art Stone, Revolution, Curtain Call... still waiting on Costume Gallery - I like their "novelty" costumes so I hope it comes soon! I'm anxious and their website isn't updated yet.
I was really impressed with Weissman's this year. I feel like they usually just reuse A LOT of costumes from year to year so you flip through and think "great but I used that last year..." but this year they had a lot of different stuff. Unfortunately, one costume I was like "ooh I hope they have that again I want to use it!" got cut, but I am in love with the one that has little shorts with pink gingham ruffles on the butt - "Hoedown Throwdown". Totally fits with a 7-8 year old tap routine I'm going to be choreographing.
We're excited to try Revolution this year and Art Stone has some great stuff too. I haven't spent too much time with the Curtain Call catalog yet but found a few I like. |

ok don't freak out when revolutions stuff comes in... #1 the packaging makes all of the other costume companies look bad.... and you look bad.... #2 one of the outfits looked like it would fit a 2 year old and it was for 8 year old.... eeek then we tried it on and it did stretch... we did like what we ordered but order extra in case of adding more due to the fact that they can not get you out another one in time...
Art Stone personally called me this last week and I thought yep I am a sucker I will be ordering from him... |

I saw the Revolution costumes in person at Rhee Gold's DLTC earlier this month, and they were stunning, both front and back. The blue costume on their cover appeared professional grade when I examined it up close, even. With their packaging and prices, I can't help but order mostly from them. |

Thanks for the 'props' on the dancing tree. The instant I saw it I knew what it was and had to download it. I wonder if 'normal' people recognize it as quickly as we enthusiasts |

Last year, I ordered a lot of costumes from Curtain Call. this year, I'm a little disappointed in their selection. Plus as someone stated, their prices went up. I got an email about a trunk show that they are having in my area.
Art Stone actually went down on some of their costumes and I found quite a few costumes that I do like. I also got a personal phone call from one of the reps. before they sent out the catalogue stating it was coming in the mail. I am looking forward to attending their wine/hors d'ouerves showing again, if they have it this year.
Weissman's has a nice selection.
I like some of Revolution's costumes, I just wished they had a bigger selection.
I didn't care for too many of Costume Gallery's costumes.
Not sure where the bulk of my orders will be from this year - probably Art Stone. |

I will be going into the studio and starting back full speed again this week, so I will look thru the costumes then. But I know this year I am looking for very specific items, and colors so if they don't have it I'm not getting it. |

Their prices are great....that's because Chinese workers get paid alot less than American workers. Just ask companies where they make the costumes... |

I have ordered from Revolutions for the past 3 years (since they started costumes) and I love what you get. You get way better quality and for a great price. Their costumes are so well bagged and complete and just GREAT that I had a dad try to give it back to me after the recital because he thought it was a rental. lol ( didnt know that grandma paid for it. |

I love The Line Up! Their catalog is online. You get to pick your own fabrics and they make everything to your own specs. If they don't have a fabric that you want, they will find it for you to use. They are actually pretty reasonable for competition costumes. The studio pricing is less than the posted online five or more price. They manufacture everything in Minnesota and everything is lined. Amazing quality!
