AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH (x1000)
*deep breath*
Okay.
So.
I joined the studio I'm working at this year's Facebook group, and I get a message that has been sent out to ALL the families and teachers announcing that the ballet classes and the hip-hop classes have been swapped. Days, times, everything. Because our new hip-hop teacher had scheduling conflicts with the other times. Yeah. So guess what? The new times conflict with MY schedule! This is the same studio that wants to improve their ballet program - but I don't know how they expect to do that when ballet is clearly less of a priority than hip-hop on their agenda!
I feel better now.
What should I do?? More than anything I'm just shocked at the lack of professionalism displayed in this situation. Am I overreacting?? 3 Replies to SO completely changed my class schedule without notification |

I'd be annoyed too if my SO changed my schedule without talking to me first.
Are you unable to do the classes now because of the change? If you can, I would suggest you call/email your SO (my boss listens better when I email) and let him/her know that you can't accommodate their changes, and next time, you would appreciate it if they confirmed the schedule with you before it was published. |

Although the SO certainly has the right to make any such changes, it is typically wise to confirm them with your employees/teachers beforehand.
I would not jump to the conclusion that the SO values one type of dance over another. There could be a number of reasons why she came to the conclusion that this was for the best. Even if it was because the hip hop classes were given first priority, it's important to keep in mind that dance schools are businesses and sometimes a decision needs to be made to better the business or keep it afloat. Unfortunately (for your situation), hip hop classes tend to make the most money.
I would approach the SO to discuss this issue. If you are able to make the adjustments and willing to do so, then explain that you will. But I would politely make it clear that you wish you would have had the opportunity to confirm this prior to the schedule being made public. And that you prefer the courtesy to know before the customers in the future.
If you are unable to make the changes, then I would approach the SO with what adjustments you can and are willing to make. Be aware, that this may mean that you are cut. No, it's not fair and should have been handled differently, but it may be the reality of the situation. Hopefully, by entering with some possibilities, the two of you can brainstorm to find a solution.
Good luck! |

UGH! Been there done that. Sometimes its just a matter of a SO flaking out and not checking with you if you are available.
Its a PITA...just calmly tell her your feelings and concerns. |
