Teachers - Job Talk Sale of dance school I work at... How much would it be worth? en>fr fr>en By Dancing_B Comments: 33, member since Sat May 16, 2009On Wed Aug 26, 2009 07:17 AM
I am currently a self-employed and work at a local dance studio in Australia. The company is only 5 years old with about 130 students, however not many of these are long term clients. The owner currently doesn't own a premises and instead, hires the local government rec centres to hold the classes in. She has mentioned to me her intentions to sell and has asked if I'm interested, yet hasn't given me a price yet. Was just wondering how much people would be willing to pay for a business in this position? And if it is worth going into? I don't want to get ripped off!!! Thanks. 4 Replies to Sale of dance school I work at... How much would it be worth? |

First, I know the exchange rate from the US to Oz is more in Oz. So, getting an actual number might vary but what I can tell you is GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!!! I can't stress that enough. I got screwed over by a "friend/collegue" when I bought my studio and do NOT want that happening to anyone else.
Also, what is included? Is it just the mailing list with the potential clients? Or is the music, props, etc... Included as well.
Good Luck! |

What are you buying? She only rents from a rec center. Does she have a studio set up in the rec center with mirrors, floating floor, barres? Otherwise you are buying her name and mailing list. You could probably open your own place for less and people who know your rep would follow. |

Thanks, will definately make sure I do that!!! That's the problem, I think it's more the mailing list than anyting. There's a very limited number of props (like chairs) and the uniforms that she sells to students, but I think thats about it.
Thanks so much for your replies. They have given me a few more things to think about... |

I agree with the other poster and you should advertize your own classes and they will follow. There is nothing to buy here. |
