plans for the upcoming competition season.
Are you cutting back, doing the same amount of comps, doing more??
Just curious....thought this board could use some new posts. 15 Replies to What are your ....... |

I guess it depends on when the competitions are held, how close the dates are to another contest, location and entry cost. I have a feeling most people will be cutting back. Between the gas, hotel, entry fees and spending. It gets pricy for a weekend contest. I myself will be weighing all the contests out to see what will be most beneficial for my daughter. Good luck to all in this new twirling season. |

Oh yes I agree....we are not doing as much as I'd like....but its so hard to hit them all here - seems like there are sooo many all ontop of eachother.
I've set my schedule and the parents like it.....so Im in a good spot - at least with them.
We only have a very few who will travel far for comps so that I don't have to worry about to bad.

Plan to do two or three--one or two local and NBTA nationals. Then I'm done competing. Last time I went to nationals I didn't know I was going until June. This time around I don't have that excuse:):) |

Would love to say we are doing alot of travel this year but I don't think that will happen. Our regional was not far off from Nationals and that hurt the bank account! I know we are lucky to have several contests close to home but even that might be a stretch this year. I am pretty sure we will do Nationals again but not sure if the whole group will go. This makes it difficult to make and plan routines but we will work it out. |

I actually have no idea what my plans are this year! My first step is to make it through football season alive! My main concentration is going to be feature twirler tryouts. I might do a couple DMA competition and NBTA Miss Majorette of WV but I don't think the full schedules are posted yet, so I can'y really make any plans. Probably going to go to TU Internationals again this summer as well...I wouldn't miss that competition for the world! Haha! Hope everyone has a great year! I vut back the amount of competitions I do a lot last year because of school, and I think I'm going to cut it down even more this year. My age division in WV is so small it starts to get lonely competing by yourself sometimes....

We'll do all our local USTA Maryland Baton Council contests which run every other weekend starting in February until mid-May. Northeastern Regionals in PA the last weekend in May/first weekend in June. USTA Nationals in Savannah next July.
May try to work in a trip to Long Island for a New York contest to get in front of some other judges/get other feedback.
Next year when she is doing AA freestyle may look into doing a second regionals but not sure yet - have to get through this season first! |

my daughter is just comming up to nationals here in uk. she joined a new team half way thro the season and she has taken on 3 new events just the second half of the season. Next year she will be taking on another event duet as long we can find her a partner.
I am really looking forward to it. I am so pleased she is doing well.

I am a coach and a twirl mom and I know the economy has hit both aspects very hard. My teams are cutting back this season and are only doing 1/2 of the "local" contests we used to do, and we are focusing on one regional and then TU International. My solo kids are cutting back on 1/2 of the events they do at the local level and are using that money to do regionals and internationals. We are having our first fundraiser ever this season to help pay for new costumes. Used to pay out of our pocket, but not this season. Too many parents out of work or on cutbacks. Hopefully this is a temporary situation. |

We're just starting up but with the exception of one family who quit for the year due to the economy, I haven't heard of any others who are cutting back. We don't do a lot so it seems the families aren't willing to do more this year, but are planning for the status quo. One child is switching to gymnastics and I know that's more than we cost!
Last night the news stated that the recession might be over -- fingers crossed! |

About how many twirlers do you have Tidetwirlmom? If you are handy with a tube of E-6000, I might be able to coach you thru a little basic costume construction, if you'd like. Are you in Alabama? |

My daughter helps pick contests based on where we can have the most fun. Competitions are mini-vacations for us. So definitely want to make it back to Louisiana for the AAU Mardi Gras contest (last year the contestants were in a Mardi Gras parade the next day and had an absolute blast). She always likes Twirltacular so she'll probably do 1 or 2 of those. DMA Mini-Nationals for sure but maybe not nationals depending on band camp. Would love to get back to AAU Junior Olympics.
We're considering saving up for Twirltacular in Hawaii over New Year's more than a year away. Never done anything like that before. |
