Hello fellow teachers:)

I will be instructing a class of boys ages 6-9 and I'm stressing on how to conduct the class. It is a Hiphop and Tap class. I'm not worried about the tap so much. Its the Hip hOp that I'm stressing about. We did try to find/hire a male instructor but had no luck ;( . And with me being a female, I'm not sure how to conduct it. Any suggestions GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you-

Keep them moving and do not give them downtime. They have more energy and usually are more distracted than girls. Stay away from CUTE anything, lol.

Set your music up so it can go non-stop. Explain the rules before class, every class.

Get some high energy stuff like jumping, leaping to burn off their excess of energy.

Boys are great but they are so different than girls to teach. I was always given the boys classes at the school I taught for in NY and they wore me out. You need a bit more patience.

Do not afraid to be tough with them and make them tow the line. They can take it, but you may have some shy boys, too. Do not take your eyes off of them because they like to be touchy sometimes with maybe hitting or pushing, more than girls.

Now, you might wind up with a class of boys who are not that way, but be prepared.

I used music with no words because I needed them to focus on the task at hand and not singing along to songs.

Good luck.
