I am a fan of group work. I think when done correctly, it's very visually pleasing on stage. With that being said, I had a beautiful song picked out for my petite company. I started the choreography last night with it mostly consisting of group work. I could see it all over their faces, they were so confused. I taught it very slowly, and I just think it was to much on them.

This group is made up of 7-9 year olds with a few 10 year olds. My question is, do you have similar issues with this age? I am trying to figure out if this is to much for this age to handle. Advice?

What do you mean by group work? Is is making intricate patterns with their choreography?

I think she means, not everyone doing the exact same choreography? Like a round or each group doing different choreography at the same time? I do not teach much of this to my beginers at that age. I find they have a harder time visualizing it. I do teach it to my 7-9 year olds that are not beginer, I just have a few assistants (teens) in the room when we first learn it, so each group has someone to follow. Once they know it you can work with one group at a time. But at first they definitely need someone to follow, because youll be calling out corrections and they may not know who you are talking about or get lost following the person next to them.

Yes, I mean not everyone doing the same choreography at the same time. Some of these girls have been competing for about 2 years. So, I consider that relatively new. I think I just need to rethink, and maybe not try such complex and intricate things.

I did a dance last year with a small section like this in it with this age group and it took forever to get it looking any where near right . They are still developing their sense of rhythm so it will be more difficult for them.
