What tartan do you wear for your kilt, and is there a specific reason why you chose it? Macleod of lewis. I just love yellow!

Do you wear a white dress or an Aboyne for nationals? A light blue Aboyne
What colour is your jig dress? Green with two tone jig shoes
What colour is your hornpipe outfit? Navy Blue
What brand of Ghillies do you wear? Hullachan Pro
What is the name of your school and teacher? Dutch pipes and drums, Rik de Vroome
Why did you choose highland? My granddad played the tenor drum in a pipe band. And I just loved the highland dancers. So I decided to try.
Do you take, or have you taken, any other forms of dance? I did ballet for 10 years
What makes you love Highland dance? The costumes
If you could describe your dancing in only 1 word, what would it be? Fantastic!
Do you compete? If so, what level are you in? I’m in Premier
When is your next competition (if applicable)? 12th September, Alden biesen (Belgium); 20th November, Ghent (Belgium)
What has been your most memorable competition moment? My first Intermediate competition in Colchester. I won the overall trophy
What has been your most memorable non-competitive achievement? The trips to Malta, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Scotland, England, Belgium, Germany and France with my band!
Do you remember your first competition and how you did there? My first competition was in the Netherlands (Swifterband). And I got 4 Silver medals.
What do you enjoy most about competitions? To catch up with friends. And to stand on that stage and to do my best.
What is the most difficult thing for you about Highland? Split Highcuts!
What's the easiest? Shedding
What are your best and favourite steps? All the steps in the jig.
What are your worst and least favourite? The sword dance.
Anything you are still working on? Split Highcuts
Do you ever feel the pressure to quit? NO!!
What are your favourite dances? JIG! And blue bonnets
How often do you take class? Once a week
Do your friends and family support your dancing? Yes, they are always there for me!
Do you hang out with your dance friends outside the studio? Yes we do sleepovers. And sometimes we go to the cinema, go bowling, to the Efteling or we just hang out.
Would you rather have a strict or an easy-going teacher? Strict
What has been your most embarrassing dance moment? Once in England it rained very hard. And I went on stage for the fling. The stage was very slippery and I slide off the stage. It was very embarrassing.
If someone completely unfamiliar with Highland dancing asked you why you did it, what would you tell them? Because I just love it!
What other activities do you have besides dancing? I do cycle racing and I play the tenor drum
