When I was in middle school, one of my dance teachers decided to have us use flashlights during one of our dances. Well, it was a cool idea, but she didn't really know how to do it "well". So, I've been hanging on to the idea until I found a song to use. I'm *thinking* about using it for my modern class, but I might do it with advanced jazz instead.

Any song ideas for modern or jazz? (The only thing I thought of was "Fireflies" by Owl City, but I don't really feel motivated to choreograph to it.)

sorry, no song ideas for you but I wanted to toss in that a Contemporary teacher I know used 'push lights' (they're little plastic lights and when you push them they come on/off) in a recital piece. She had the girls tap them on and off at different times during the piece - it was a really great effect. She just used instrumental music; something cirque-du-soleil ish.

Camerogirl - those lights sound pretty cool. I've also looked at these flashlights that the Halloween store are carrying that can go from regular flashlights to different colored glow sticks.

I used Kill The Lights by Britney Spears in this years recital. It was an advanced jazz and it was the girls favorite number.

It's old, but several years ago I created a piece to Twilight Zone (the techno version ha ha) with flashlights for my 5th-6th graders. It turned out really well and the kids loved it

What about looking for a song about night, darkness or spotlights? I went to itunes and just typed in those words and tons of stuff came up - lots from the Twilight movie. I don't know what tempo you're looking for but there was lots to choose from.

I choreographed a spy number a couple of years ago and while the lights were out and a spotlight was on a dancer onstage the class sneaked in crawling into the aisles, then all the lights turned off and the dancers danced in the aisles and in front for a while with the flashlights, everyone still talks about that number.
