Teachers - General Dance Convention, Going alone- what do you think? en>fr fr>en By MarisaK Comments: 537, member since Fri Jul 31, 2009On Sat Sep 12, 2009 02:59 PM
I am looking into several dance conventions (Nuvo, The Pulse, Tremaine...) and since it is my first year as dance director of a studio I dont have any competition group or really any older students that would want to go.
BUT I REALLY want to go to a convention or 2 throughout the year to take some good classes and keep in the know about everything. All I do now is teach so I need some class time! I would also be registering as a teacher- so access to all rooms, teaching tips, et. I live in a big city where they all come so I could forgo the hotel costs and just pay the convention tuition.
1. Do you think its worth the money? (like an investment in myself- keeping my technique up, etc.)
2. I would be going alone... thoughts on this? Is that weird? I dont really mind, I'll just be dancing the whole time anyway!
Thanks in advance! 3 Replies to Dance Convention, Going alone- what do you think? |

No, why would it be weird? The whole idea of going to conventions is to take class, get idea's, broaden your horizon's. I know alot of teacher's go and sit and don't dance...I think that's weird. |

It is not weird to go alone. I have gone just for myself a few times or sometimes just taken a couple of older students.
Some of the conventions do not have teacher rooms so you would just be dancing in the student ballrooms. Which is good too but just be aware of this. I know for sure Showstoppers only has student ballrooms and teacher classes about bringing hip-hop to your studio, a make-up class, costume ideas etc.

Me too! I like to go and get ideas and rejuvenate myself.
Have fun!!
