I am The company Director at my dance studio. we have started to do more competitions. In return we are begining to see more student want solos to compete. Can you please tell me what the arrangement is at your studio between the teacher / Studio Owner as far as % goes? Do they take a percentage or do they charge a studio rental fee per hour? I a, thinking a rental fee is the norm, and the fairest way to go about it. PLEASE give me all your thoughts and experiences ! THANK YOU SO MUCH !

When I had my school, they earned a regular hourly rate as salary.

At the school where I teach now they charge $10 per half hour or $15 per hour, room rental fee and we charge what we want. The average we charge is about $30-$40 per half hour lesson.

At the studio where I teach, the teacher receives 100% of the fee for solo lessons, but I have an amazing SO. However, there are a few conditions.
First of all, the solo lesson can't take the slot of another potential class, it has to be at a time where the studio is completely free, so as to ensure that no revenue is being taken away by occupying the studio.
Second of all, the solo student has to already be enrolled in three classes, so as to ensure she's not doing a solo instead of a class, but as an addition.
We charge $50.00 an hour for solo lessons and it goes directly to the instructor.

Thank you for all of your replies !!!! I think we have it figured out. The Owner asked me to make up a few different ways so she could decide for herself. It went well and I think we both see eye to eye !

All really interesting to me....we are 50/50 between us and the SO, and I've never even heard of a studio rental fee.

The studio I used to teach at charged a set amount for solos. Then the teacher had to pay the "studio rental fee" of either 25% or %100, whichever was less. The agreement with the student was that they got 2 lessons to learn the choreography and 1 lesson to clean/get help for that set price. After that, they had to pay a private lesson fee.

I thought that it was a fair system, if worked properly. But the SO was pretty shady and therefore so were the paying parents. It ended up being quite a mess on several occasions...
