At AYOP this year, there was some talk that NBTA was going to change the Dance Twirl categories this year,and add a pre-teen division. In addition, the average age for all teams would change slightly. Does anyone know if, in fact, this is true? There is nothing on the website about it.

Wanted to bring this topic back up. Has anyone heard anything else on this issue?

Have not heard anything and there is a comp for us in November. Soooooo I'd have to say if anything is going to change it might not happen until new rules come out in Jan.;

I got my Drum Major today and on page 6 at the bottom there is a reminder about team divisions. It says there is a proposed adoption of new age division for Jan. 1,2010 for NBTA USA.

0-5.9 Tiny Tot
6-8.9 Juvenile
9-11.9 Pre-teen
12-14.9 Junior
15& over Senior

I really hope they make that change.

I wish they would have an age cap for each division... but I know that's just a dream

I think they really need to divide the Sr. group into two categories. More and more people are staying in twirling longer, and the sport should accomodate people my age.-- 22 (grabbing my hip and limping away)

Thanks for posting that. I actually came back to post that I had gotten the Drum Major and saw that (plus noticed that I must have been asleep when I typed the word "category" so strangely in my title!).

So if this is "proposed", I wonder when they plan to let us know when it is official. It may mean a major rearranging of some of our teams to make the average ages work right for the new categories because we are already working on routines.
