I second that. My ballet and tap combo class seems to get tired and bored after ballet starting tap. I need some fresh ideas.
Any suggestions????? :)

We make a "tap pie". I'll try to explain it as if I was in class:

Make a circle and "pat" the pie crust out on the floor.
Me: "Child A, how many shuffle steps should we put in our pie?"
A: "3"
Me: "Child B, should we start on the right or left foot?"
B: "Left"
Everyone does 3 shuffle steps starting on their left foot. We bend down and "pick the shuffle steps up" and throw them in the pie. I usually comment that this ingredient is spicy or sweet, etc.
Repeat with other steps until everyone had a chance to make a decision or you run out of steps.
March around the circle to stir the ingredients together. Cover the pie and lift it all together (make a big deal about it being heavy) and put it in the "oven". Set the timer.

At the end of class, I pretend to hear the timer go off and we all go over and take the pie out of the oven and eat it so that we can remember all our tap steps.

Another game is the "Elevator Game". We all stand on a line or in a circle (depending on how rowdy the class is, they can move around the room or stay in place).
Me: "Let's get in our magic tap dance elevator... open the doors [mime opening doors] and get in [march in place]. What floor should we go to?" At this point you can ask someone, or just declare which floor (number from 1-10)
A: "Floor 3!"
Everyone pretends to push a button and hops/marches three times while counting out loud. "ONE, TWO, THREE!"
Me: "OK, We're on the [tap step of your choice] floor! Open the doors and get out, but the only thing your feet will do is [tap step]!"
Do the step a few times and then go back in the elevator. Repeat with other floors and different steps. Usually I will do a silly floor for the last floor (backwards floor, ice skating, flying floor, sticky floor, etc.). Then we go back to dance class by counting backwards from 10 or 5.

Hope this helps! It gets them to practice the steps repeatedly because they think its a game.
