Does anyone know where I could go to get my dance certificate to become a dance teacher in Pennsylvania. I know I could just walk into a studio and apply for a dance teaching job but it would look better if I had a certificate for being a dance teacher K-12 grade. Can someone give me some advice?

In some states a teaching certification from a university of college is attainable. From looking at this website, www.pde.state.pa.us . . . it seems like the state of PA does have standards within their schools for some sort of dance education -- meaning, if you were to get a degree in dance, you could get certified to teach dance k-12. Some states, like MO where I live, do not have standards for dance education in the school system so we have to be more creative. Now, to work in a dance studio, this type of certification is lengthy (but worth it).
Another alternative, instead of a degree, would be to look into dance certification programs (a reputable one). Dance Masters of America has a Pennsylvania chapter, and it is a great organization with it's own conventions, workshops, and competitions. To receive certification with them you must pass a test in which ever techniques you are proficient in to teach. My SO and another teacher took their tests in Jazz and Ballet, and I'm looking to take it in jazz (because there is no HH category ) and tap. There are study sessions with fellow teachers over the curriculum and after passing the tests you are part of this great web of teachers as a support net and tool. It does cost money (dues, etc.) but it's definitely worth it and would look GREAT on a dancer teachers resume! www.dma-national.org . . .

Hope this helps a little!
Let me know what you do!
