Teachers - General lyrical/modren age 5-8? en>fr fr>en By denea33190 Comments: 173, member since Mon Jan 07, 2008On Sun Sep 27, 2009 10:20 AM
My S.O. asked to me teach a modern/lyrical type class for ages 5-8. I have mixed feelings on it and was just wondering if anybody else does this.
I figuered they do some stretch and learn the more balletic (if thats even a word) steps. Just get them introduced to the movements.
good idea? bad idea? 3 Replies to lyrical/modren age 5-8? |

At this age I still do a lot of creative movement type stuff. So it wouldn't be that different. I teach terminology in ballet and tap but don't expect the technique to really be there yet. Calling the class lyrical or modern wouldn't change too much of the actually material for me. I would probably play with choreography a bit more. Let them do some more improvisation things maybe? |

You could probably introduce them to basic storytelling and moods/feelings like happy and sad. I too, would do a lot of creative movement type stuff. |

Do some research on Isadora Duncan technique, she did modernd dance with young girls, it was very floaty and graceful, a lot of jumping andf skipping, arm movements and story telling. I saw Lori Belliloves Isadora Duncan Dance COmpany last year and they had a group of little girls doing the technique and not only were they beautiful but they looked like they were really having a good time doing the movements. |
