The old way of listing costume companies in a sticky was problematic:

-It was hard to keep up to date with changes
-The businesses were not listed alphabetically
-You could not easily search the list
-It was free advertising to companies and businesses that could and should support dance.net

We've now added a new system where this is now automated and searchable. Costume companies will pay a small fee to list themselves in the directory and this directory will be tied into the menu system so it's easy to find.

Being in the directory also has many advantages:
-A map of the business is displayed
-Businesses can control the look and information themselves
-They can update the information as needed
-They can post photos in their listing
-We will add new requested features in the future

It's a simple process to add your company to the directory:

www.dance.net . . .

With the mods' help, we're going to start locking stickies and implementing this new service.

It has its own tab between "jobs" and "local" - you can now access some specific dancewear categories by going to "Ballet Dancewear" in the Ballet menu, "Ballroom Dancewear" in the Ballroom menu, etc.

I'm sorry it's moving to the directory board because I hardly ever get there.

For me it was hard to find this new item. And I thought about Why I had that problem.
All other tabs have a subtablist (you understand me?) in the line below. After you choose the tab Dancers, you can choose from the subtablist Ballet, Tap, Jazz etc.

In the Directorylist, the subtablist is shown in a different way. The letters seem smaller and harder to read.
Would it be possible to make it look the same as in the other tabs? Also to reduce the huge list you have to go through to find the right thing.

maybe im being very blonde but i cant find it..lol

I totally second lidwina's idea of making the directory tab look the same way with subtab topics. It took me 3 tries to find the new costume area. I think the idea is great for costume companies to list, but we need to make it uber easy to find!!

For everyone just as confused as me trying to find it, I believe this is where it is located:

At the top of the page there are main tabs that say dancers, jobs, directory, etc. Click on directory. This brings you to a new page with no subtabs, but a page that has a big blue rectangle section on the left with a huge list aka directory. I simply did control F and typed in costume to find it immediately. It's listed under merchandise and called dance costumes. There are only 4 companies listed as of October 13th.

Again, this is my thought as to where this new costume company list is located. If not, please let us know where to find it with specific directions, thanks!!

Hello. I found it. I also signed up for that. That little map is kind of cute.

It's very early stages but I think people will warm to the DIRECTORY.

I'm wondering this directory will also be included in the big teachers section. As I think many teachers stay within this section due to time restrictions on their time.

Hi sorry I went through the directory tab and couldn't find it this is very frustrating as it was really useful. Please can some one who is obviously really clever Help.I have got a degree but not in how to use Dance.net......

I think this is a much better way of having the costume designers listed (obviously when people figure out how to use it).

I'll try and help you guys find it!

1)Click on the directory tab at the top of the page. It is between Jobs and Local.

2) Look at the long list of links down the left hand side of the page

3) Find the RED sub-heading of "Merchandise"

4) Click on the DANCEWEAR link under this.

5) Voila!!

Thanks rachel very clear. I am sure there must be an easier way to find this as I am sure the dance wear companies will not be to pleased when they hear that people are having trouble finding them . Not good for Buissiness

I thought the idea of the old system was for other teachers & studio owners to put THEIR input...not just a place for companies to advertise

I'm sure you've all figured this out by now, but there is actually another way to get to these dancewear posts:

In the "Dance" tab (where you are now), hold your mouse over the specific dance genre that you want to see costumes for. For example, mouse over "jazz".

One of the categories now listed is "Jazz Dancewear". Clicking on this category takes you right to the Directory listings for jazz dancewear, without having to go through the Directory tab itself. Same thing for Ballet, Ballroom, Disco, Folk, Highland, Hip Hop, Irish, Modern, and Tap.

I think it's a great, organized way to search for costumes and dancewear companies... great job, linh and webheadmaster!
