 Ask a Teacher Ahhh! Choreographer's block. en>fr fr>en By behappy_dance Comments: 662, member since Sun May 11, 2008On Sun Oct 11, 2009 04:16 PM
Hi! I also posted this on the lyrical board but thought you teachers could help me out a little better. I have to do a required creative activity for school, so I am choreographing (and performing) and lyrical dance to Save You by Simple Plan- youtube.com . . . I cut it down to 2:25 however, so it would fit into the time limit. I have about a minute done but ugh I just don't know what to do next! Anyone have some inspiration or tips?? Ugh. 3 Replies to Ahhh! Choreographer's block. |

I suggest watching different movies, shows or video clips of dancers that have inspired you. Not necessarily in that genre but just to get your mind moving.
Also, if you're creative in other ways like scrapbooking or something. Do that for a little to get your mind away from dance and come back to it. |

The previous suggestions are great, but I would also look back to any piece you have performed in and what were the steps or movements that you liked doing the most? Revisit the old, that always works. Like previously noted, I have to get completely away from the dance to be able to get the juices flowing. Good luck... |

Sometimes I look back at old choreography that I have done. I also love to watch dance movies, from the old days. Other times, just put on the music and move, just move and see what comes out. If you can film it, too, it helps. |
